Assist: https://store.schnitzracing.com/mtc-lock-up-clutch-kawasaki-zx-14r-12-23/

1. I hold (20%) of time with the lever pulled at traffic lights. I kill (80%) the engine at a light to avoid the clunk/hours off the engine. No slip, nor is it hard to find N when running.

2. Always mix decades old 50w racing with other brands/weights. One time I topped off the crankcase with synthetic and slipped without a sporting clutch leave, i.e., nor even mild abuse. After a few hundred miles or more the slip was no more.

3. I watch drag racing videos and watch the 14's spank the next lane. I don't see a wazzo clutch cover with a fairing having a circular hole for the clutch cover to butt out using a lockup. However, I do see the setup with the bikes in the pro/top fuel classes, will sprockets and belt pulleys for blower/turbo/warmed over engines, yes.

Hey guys, please don't flame me, this is just an idea:

Crazy Whack Think: Man, I need this. I keep burning clutches out on the street.
The Rethink: No man, you need a few lessons at a drag racing school.

Crazy Whack Think: Man, every bike I've owned I've burnt out pack after pack.
The Rethink: Shit man, you've got some bad habits on the execution of left hand, head game, right twist.

Crazy Whack Think: Man, I smell a match burning, it was just an idea.
The Rethink: Takes a man to let the lever fly, don't start to cry.

Crazy Whack Think: Man, you were the last person I wanted to weight in on this.
The Rethink: Well, that's what I'm saying, is add more weight at the end of the main shaft.

Crazy Whack Think: Man, I want to make sure I'm at the light or traffic light, it wont slip.
The Rethink: See Chrly tooling up for a centrifugal? 'The Hand' needed a cen? Bad's butt need to upgrade?

Hi Hub,

For someone of your stature on this forum your response is a sad attempt to degrade some creative thinking.

a. I didn't mention what bike it was going on
b. I didn't mention drag racing
c. I don't care who uses one and who doesn't
d. Chrly has an awesome bike and great track results, but I'm pretty sure he doesn't commute to work on it in traffic. Even if he does then it doesn't influence my question.
e. Who mentioned burning up clutches?

Try answering the question next time.

It's already hard enough to get replies on this forum without children polluting threads.

a. I didn't mention what bike it was going on... The assumption was a 14 centi (url) setup on a 14 site. Have to answer with limited input from the questioneer.

b. I didn't mention drag racing... The product is for racing applications with a lot of HP behind it. It's that specific that overrides the standard clutch setup.

c. I don't care who uses one and who doesn't... Useful for some, useless for others.

d. Chrly has an awesome bike and great track results, but I'm pretty sure he doesn't commute to work on it in traffic. Even if he does then it doesn't influence my question.... Just by looking at the H2's HP output, they are not using a windup actuator like the cen to keep the clutch from breaking loose. If instructions call for the slipper setup to be eliminated, not practical for the street. If the slipper stays in, HA, I'd like to see the slipper springs override the centi's spin.

e. Who mentioned burning up clutches?... The unit is used for no other reason but to keep the pack from slipping with more HP thrown at it. I can only assume some can't keep a clutch from wearing out. An example is the bmw twin. Notorious for that single plate to wear. But mine never slipped, nor showed it's wear. So it's not the bike in other words. I leave nothing on the table, meaning, from pro to squid think.

Try answering the question next time... My answer has not changed. It's over kill if you think a pipe/flash needs a clutch upgrade for basically a street bike. Problems in traffic? Cali is clutch kill traffic. Haven't burned up one yet on any bike I've owned. So it's definitely not the bike's bulletproof design.

It's already hard enough to get replies on this forum without children polluting threads... Like, 'would a centi be practical for commuter riding?' No. There is your adult answer.

My two cents .. If you are burning up clutches you are more than likely not releasing clutch fast enough and/or at too high an rpm .
Hub, you are correct. I am not commuting but I do have just 400 miles shy of 30000 on the bike :) Skipping racing this year to enjoy some more road miles and try The Texas Land speed event. Never been there but Mojave had to shut down .Plus I have family in Texas , plus I am west coast rep for Eldest Builds out of the Houston area .. I need to do some visiting ..

chrly, Thanks for corroborating about needing more lockup when you show proof stock or [if applies] springs, plus the OEM plates to freshen up; shows that backup with the numbers. Have fun in Texas.

And just to clarify..My clutch has half stock springs and half upgraded to brocks heavier. Offhand cant remember the actual spring . Bike is putting out a lil over 200 HP I think I have replaced steels three times since buying bike new in summer of 2015. With racing 10 months a year except for a few rainouts.Replaced Fibres twice " just because I had them for back up .
I am sure somewhere a 14R is using a Centrifical clutch but I do not recall seeing one on 14s that are running as fast as 8 second quarters..
In April we are bumping up the output of my 14R a bit. Will let you know how and/or if clutch is affected. As for stop and go traffic, I live in California Traffic is not really a problem . This is on the freeway but in town is even simpler.. [vid]https://vimeo.com/144375665[/vid]
