Originally coming from England, lane splitting was just part of riding a bike, and a part I loved. Who the hell wants to sit in stopped traffic when you can filter through it? Looks like some states are thinking of following California. I was curious what you guys who haven't been able to legally lane split in the past thought about it.

Nobody does it here. Hell cages don't like to see me use the MC/carpool lane to get on the expressway around here. I had a guy cut me off and he wasn't even carpooling! I guess he thought I was going too fast and wanted to teach me a lesson, fokker.

I think lane splitting looks a bit dangerous. I know some a-hole who didn't know about the new law would swing his door open on a bike just to prove a point. I guess I would be very slow and careful about it if we ever got the right to lane split here. This is Harley City. I can't believe we weren't the first one ones to allow this.

I've had car drivers block me when I was in England even though it's legal. I've also had car drivers give me extra room when they've seen me filtering through. I've seen bikes tearing through stopped traffic giving themselves no chance if somebody opens a door like you mentioned, giving us all a bad name.
I think it's a good idea so long as all bike riders are sensible and all car drivers are respectful.
