2011 ZX14
01/11/11 10:26 AM

The 2011 ZX14 is posted on the Kawasaki website, and in Features it just blandly says that since the H1 they have always produced kick-ass street bikes.

In other words, and as far as I can tell, by the Specifications, the 2011 is a repainted 2010, which is a repainted 2009, which is a repainted 2008.

The ZX10R says it is the fastest motorcycle yet from Kawasaki. Truth.

They put a lot of money into improving the ZG14 (Concours 14).

I'm 3 for 3 on predictions I made early last year. :)

Yeah but 2011 msrp is $13599... I just picked up a leftover '08 for $7500.

$6099 buys a lot of nice aftermarket parts.

Glad you got a good deal, Dog. Your 2008 is as good as the 2011, for far less money.

and a helluva nice one of a kind paint job, which is all they have done since 08'. Still love the 14 though just wouldn't spend the $ for just a different color.

Unless the hickup with the launch of the new 10r set back testing, I have to assume 2012 will be the year for a reworked zx14. Kawi knows what I paid for my bike. I bought it on a Saturday and Kawi USA called me on Monday to take a customer service survey. If they have that kind of real time inventory knowledge of the little dealership I bought from, then they know that they need an all new 14, if they wanna be able to sell new units. I'm anxious to see what direction they go with the model. There's such a diverse group of owners for the current zx14 that it is gonna be impossible for Kawi to keep us all happy.

If they are ever going to improve it it will 2012. Really not alot to improve, lose a little weight not much just a little and just a little boost in stock power would suit me fine. I don't really care about all the gadgets I prefer to ride without them but I see the addition of standard ABS at the least.

I don't think they are going to go more for the sport touring crowd because that would be getting pretty redundant, already having the Connie. The 2012 ZX-14 will have to outdo the literbikes' performance in sheer acceleration, top speed or better yet, both.

I think they will take what they did for the 2011 ZX-10 and just supersize it for the 14. It will be a lighter hyperbike with another 50 rwhp. I really believe they are going to have to raise the bar that high because even if they shave 40 lbs of weight off the 14, it is still a mighty big load to get to 200 mph. It's going to have to be capable of that and at least a bit more with minimal mods.

I don't think we will see any big changes in the ZX14 do to the fact that the ZX14 & Hayabusa is the smallest motorcycle market class of sales in the motorcycle industry. The money is in the 600cc, 750to and the 1000cc class. Most people who have our style or our type of bikes hold on to them for years unlike the race bikes change them every other year.

So until they have perfected the ZX10 for a couple of years then they will break out a new ZX something like a 15 or 1600cc bike. Look how long it took them to come out with the ZX14 off of the mistakes of ZX12r they will not make that mistake again.

I think right now BMW is the only one who can or will make Kawi make the move early. What if BMW made a superbikes like there new 1000 but in a 1400cc type bike what kind of horsepower would that put out? Plus with traction control and with all the other goodies that you could turn on or off. That would be crazy. Alls I could say would be WOW!!

See now that's somewhat of what I was talking about. I guess BMW can start with a Motorrad type of bike to answer the B-King or the V-Max but I would love a bike just like there S 1000 RR Supersportsa but with the ZX14 or Hayabusa type bike in mind. That would be killer a killer bike. An that would make Kawi & Suzuki get off there A$$ES!!

If they update it with S1000 technology, then the next generation of hyperbikes would be under way. I sure hope BMW would update the aeros as well.

Heathun,

Not really the K1300 is shaft driven very heavy. I'm talking about a bike just like there S 1000 RR that runs with the R1, ZX10 and the GSXR1000. If BMW were to make a bike with the same technology as the S 1000 RR to match up with the ZX14 or the Hayabusa it would force Kawi and Suzuki to step there game up and push forward to stay on top of this class of motorcycle but until then they will sit back and make changes every 5 to 6 years.

We are not getting rid of our bikes. We are just saying that the 14 needs some with some of today's technology that all. Like the ZX10...

Next logical question would be.. How much would everyone be willing to PAY for a re-styled/re-built ZX14, with all the increased electronic ZX10R doodadery?
All those "upgrades" wouldn't be free I'm sure.

'07 Hayabusa presently.. mostly stock, few comfort mods.. fixed. As Willie says, "On The Road Again"..
'04 KDX 200 dirt bike, that I manage to hurt myself with on a regular basis
'09 KX250F for a bit of Motocross

I'm guessing TC standard with a msrp of $13995. ABS as an option for another grand. I'd like a slipper clutch, too... but doubt that it will happen. Also, I hope that Kawi stiffens up the stock suspension.

What will I be willing to pay? I won't buy one until it can get it for around $11k standard or $12k loaded, otd... So I'll be waiting a bit.

Bean07,

I gotcha ABS would be nice if you could turn it on or off. As for the track I'm to fat to for the track plus all my friends that have been very few come back to the road so I try to stay away from them.
HillbillyTom,

I would pay anything from $1000-1500.00 more do to the fact that the ZX-6 an the ZX-10 group have really paid for and tested the technology so we really should not have to pay top dollar for stuff that is two years old. ya know?

DogoZX,
TC would be nice but I think if you could turn it on an off would be better. As for $13995. I could live with that.

Nah, doubtful your too fat for the track. And your friends are a testimony to the instant track addiction. If you go once, it's very true, you'll never be able to get it out of your mind again. An experience like no other in the 2 wheel world.

That's the whole RnD scheme behind hyperbikes. You just have to wait 15 years before the trackbike technology improves enough that it will make sense to put it into a bigger bike. I always saw that as an ownership plus. I never wanted something that was going to be obsolete in 2 years.

Personally, I would need to see more than electronics updated. I already know that for good riding conditions on the street, none of that is going to make a big dif anyway. I'd never take risks on the street like I would on a track. The irony is that with a brand new bike, I wouldn't be too risky on a track either.

A new ZX-14 would have to just be flat out faster and it looks like that technology is developing as well as the traction control.

Part of the motivation for traction control is that it can be billed as a safety feature. That helps avoid regulation to some degree and it attracts the attention of sport riders at the same time.

What I would like to see on new 14 is:
1. make it 30lbs lighter so with an aftermarket exhaust it weighs about 500lbs wet or less.
2. add electronic adjustable suspension just like Ducati Multistrada for touring and sport mode.
3. add factory options for touring bags
4. add traction control and abs (option on and off)
added bonus: factory power outlet and hand warmers, adjustable rearsets, steering stabalizer!

I would be real happy with that. I dont want more power if it equals bigger engine or sacrifice of low end power. Loosing 30lbs is equivelent to adding power any ways. If anything a smaller engine like a new punched out zx10 at 1200cc. This would make it handle better and be lighter. This would be an awesome street bike that you could tour on or take it to the track.
