Do people on Craigslist NOT want to sell their bikes?
04/02/12 10:37 PM

There's nothing more annoying than finding a deal I've been searching for, emailing the seller two or three times, including my phone number, then never getting a response. A few weeks later I saw the same ad posted again, I contacted the seller again, no response.

What is your best/worst Craigslist experience?

I find the most annoying thing about Craigs list is the anonymity of the person replying to your add. You put an add up with a fair price and you always get one bozo who will reply with a pathetic low ball price without actually requesting information about the article for sale.

I put a bicycle on Craigs List last year and I received a low ball reply with a hard luck story about how this persons bicycle was stolen and on a limited budget. I politely declined his offer and did not sell the bike. I put the same bike up again for the same price just a few weeks ago and I got exactly the same reply from the same guy. I wonder how many people he has sent this bull shit message to and how many have fallen for it !

Lots of people playing silly games on Craigslist.

My top pet peeve about Craigslist sellers is the disregard for any sense of etiquette. I drove on a rented truck two and a half hours to buy a ZX-14 in Brooklyn, I called just before leaving to say I was on my way (I live in Philadelphia). When I got to the seller's home, I was informed that someone else had just bought the bike. To say I was upset is an understatement.

Some would-be scammer (not too good of one, lol) tried to convince me to let him pay by PayPal. The tip off was when he said his "agent in London" would make the payment, in the same sentence as "I am just back from Iraq (implied in the US Military)" and still in the same paragraph, "I will be coming home from Iraq next month".

Ok, I know the PayPal scam, and it probably wouldn't work with the new policies and procedures PayPal has put in place anyway, but if you want to scam someone, at least get your story straight and stick with it.

I bought a Bonneville pro from a private party online. He wanted me to use PayPal and I did. WOrked great. One thing though, I would always be very careful who I buy from online if its a private person you never heard of. At least know the person from a high posts count on a forum..

I don't have a PayPal account yet, I need to create one. But once in a while I receive spam emails telling me my paypal account has been hacked and they need my personal financial information, lol Apparently a lot of people fall for the scam.

I've done a lot of deals on CL but it wasn't always smooth. I had to weed out those clowns that seem to always surface somewhere on CL.

Craigslist is a sewer. For every golden ring that went down the drain there are a billion turds.
