I finally picked up my bike in SLC Utah....promptly put on my Area P's with about 1 mile on the clock and rode about 50 miles up the utah canyons. First impressions were everything I could have hoped for....and more. The bike is amazing and I can see where you need to respect the beast or it will bite you quick. It eats up straights incredibly fast and you have to be looking ahead more than I'm used to. The Area P's make the bike loud and raspy....for lack of a better word. A bit of drone in the city, but on the highway real nice. I opted for the loud inserts and don't regret it. Had the oil changed at 55 miles or so and went up and down the rpm's to about 6k for a while anyway. I geared up and drove south on I-15 until highway 50 and headed west on the "loneliest road in America"....quite aptly named I have to say! Long straight stretches of nothing out there...beautiful scenery....no cars and 10-20 mile straights. I couldn't resist....had to do some 2-3 max rpm runs with about 200-300 miles on the bike. I wasn't overwhelmed by the power...maybe even a bit underwhelmed after all the reading, however, I was at 6-7000' of altitude. I did some 1st through 4th full throttle blasts and the bike ran strong....no wheel spin or wheelies, just good hard pulls to about 150mph. Corners were nice and the bike feels real good in the long sweepers and the occasional tight turns. I rode hard....about 9 hours until Reno....kept it at about 90mph for cruise with occasional runs to 120 to keep the adrenaline flowing. Met my girlfriend in Reno and we rode to Tahoe for a couple of days. Overall, the 700 miles was not too painful....the first 300 was a piece of cake....the next 300 some squirming....the last 100 painful. We stayed a couple days in Tahoe and then took off for Santa Clara. Started out in a storm over Tahoe...not a fun way to start a trip getting wet! Dried off and blasted down I-80....then a magical thing occurred....I started riding a completely different bike! The lower I got, the more the bike woke up....night and day difference from 6-7k altitude and sea level. I learned quickly not to romp on the bike with a passenger on back in first gear.....instant wheelie....and a scared girlfriend on back :). The ride back from Tahoe was very painful with two people and two bags strapped on the tank. Great bike for solo riding, but dual....not so much...at least for long hauls with the stock set up. I already have over 1k on the bike and I'm planning a ride up the coast to Washington soon....should be fun!
