Ace Performance Stage 1
03/23/16 4:56 PM

We just finished a Stage 1 kit from Sal at AcePerformance.com on my 2012 ZX14R and all I can say is WOW! Before the kit I had a Brock's short meg full system and a flash and tune and the bike ran 193mph in the nine tenths. This was with mirrors and a Spiegler handlebars that stick way out. After the Stage 1 the bike with a Brock's CT system ran 205mph with the mirrors and bars and on pump 93 octane gas. Sal really knows how to port a head and tune for max power. His "Real World Tune" is incredible as he tunes for the full effect of the ram air at the top of 6th gear. Kudos to Sal!!

Congrats. That's a big improvement for top speed. 12 mph and in the 200 club!! Nice.

"193mph in the nine tenths" do you mean 9/10 of a mile I assume??

Are you running stock gearing? Because 205 mph with stock tire and gears is very impressive....

Down here in South Florida we run a rolling start around 20mph in first gear and run one mile. Stock gearing with a 55 series tire gives you a little edge in top speed.

Sal @ ACE Performance did the build on my 2007 ZX-14; but I went for the Stage 3 package.
The Stage 3 package includes serious head and valve work, cams and a 2 mm over bore and a 2 mm stroke,
so my 2007 ZX-14 went from 1352cc's to 1464cc's.
I also added undercut gears and a billet clutch.
Sal is not only a great guy, but he does great work! The bike runs fantastic.
I did add a 2nd cooling fan and a 600 amp battery. :)

Nice way to breath new life into that old bike. I may hafta do myself someday. Thanks for posting.

Rook, it made 227hp and 128 ft/lbs. of torque on the dyno, but Sal tuned it "rich" to compensate for "ram air";
so subsequently, he (Sal), feels that the bike will make a lot more of both (hp and torque) above 120 mph.
I don't race it, so I don't know what it will do in the 1/4 mile,
however I did build it wanting it to take it to Road Atlanta.

I'll say this, it seems to pull harder in a "roll on" at 80 mph in 6th gear, than it did when it was stock
in 5th gear. The torque is very impressive.

If you are ever in Spring Hill, FL, or in the Tampa Bay area,
you are more than welcomed to take it for a "test ride". :)
Blessings!

Thanks, Apogee. Wish I was closer. This is a must do in a couple years. Nitrous and a punched out stroker.

If you want to go that fast, you could fine tune for ram air all the way to the top with PC5 and autotune. I'm sure your guy Sal is quite capable with a dyno though.

Sal did NOT use a dyno, he re-flashed it, using knowledge based on previous builds.
Usually a dyno will allow the tuner to tune the bike, but do so in a "static" setting, with out "ram air".
Sal actually fine tunes the bike with the computer when the bike is actually moving.
Hence his phrase "Real World Tune".
I am not sure of all of the particulars, but I am more than happy with the results.

When Sal says real world that is just what he means as in taking it to redline in 6th gear to get the full ram air effect for the tune. There is a HUGE difference in his tune and a dyno tune as no dyno can compensate for the ram air and the wind resistance and the cooling effect on the engine. There just aren't any fans that can be put in front of your bike on a dyno that will make up for it. He also tunes for rideability in every gear at all rpm levels, when he is done with the tune your bike runs smooth without hesitation in all gears at all rpm.

Sounds like he uses something like Autotune. If he has a generic map based on previous builds, that should be close to perfect. After a Real World adjustment for your individual bike, it's got to be dead on!
