Crash cage
07/18/13 10:09 AM

Hey, new to the site and a new owner of a 2009 Limited Edition ZX14, black/orange. I started off on the wrong foot with this bike and I am looking to make amends with it! I bought the bike from an older gentleman who put on a StuntWorx crash cage. He wanted to keep the cage for his new 2012 ZX14r. When I went to take it off he had used an all-thread bolt in place of the back bolt. It was not the same circumference as the stock one. When I took it and the forward bolts out the engine and tranny moved slightly forward. Needless to say I was devastated. I cannot get the rear to go in now. It is now in the shop to get fixed. My question is this; What are the forward bolts listed under on the schematic? Also, what is the long bolt in the back called? I have not ridden the bike and I wonder if, once it's back in alignment if this will cause future problems? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Boxy

Naw dude, I would not be concerned. Ride it like you stole it and whoop some ass out there. I do recommend you double check and retorque them bolts within the first couple hundred miles of riding. The rear section of the motor hangs on that rear bolt and if you pulled more than one bolt at a time without supporting the motor from the bottom along with using a drift punch to keep the holes aligned it will shift on you.

Welcome, but those race rails offer excellent protecion in event of a tip over.
Militant Moto barrier bars provide this protection also.

Thanks! All is well with the ZX. I would keep the bars but the guy I bought it from has a new 2012 ZX14r. He took a cool $500 off the price of the bike if he could keep them. I couldn't pass on that! Thanks for the replies. Looking forward to putting some miles on it...FINALLY!
