Power Commander V

Has anyone tried the new PC V yet.
For interest sake,,I contacted the canadian kawasaki rep and the 2008 zx14 is the same as the 2009 zx14 eggsept the color. There was question about this on other forums cause the PC V is only supported for the 2009 14. At least this is the official word for the canadian version zx14 model.

Eggcept the book or shop manual has not changed the wiring is tell the Canadian contingent = Gottacha is emissionsmishions. If it is 02 compliant is go for it. You need to specifically ask why/how/where you coming up with that info? If it will not work is I will come back and cry Uncle. If not, I will just re-step on their toes they are not reading that FSM correctly. Man, could I cheat the AMA/Canadian racing officials is no shit is bet me.

And welcome deep in poo is how's the, fur til lies ear going? Like Monsanto and I are close buddies is jobber your acre a share crop her.

I think I may have worded this wrong.
All I did is called the kawasaki rep in Canada (cause I'm canadian)
and asked if the canadian 08 and 09 14's were identical mechanically and electronicaly, and the simple asnwer was yes.I can double check again , a phone call doesn't hurt.
I ordered the PC V anyways, gives me something to tinker with before spring field work begins.
Hub...this is just a something to do project , the bike is fast enough stock on the street, and Hub I'm glad your around to catch the mistakes !!

"Learn to do by doing" is the way I look at things.

I have an appt with the Dyno shop this Friday to have a PCV installed on my '08.
They will be doing a full custom map.
Great news is it won't cost me a dime.
I have a friend that works for Dyno in Bozeman, MT that hooked me up with the freebie so they can use my bike for testing. Can't wait for Friday.

I actually have no idea who will be doing the install or the tuning.
My friend that got it all set up for me works on the other side of the building and writes software for the units.
I will get pics during the install. They told me it was ok to hang out and see the action.

FYI, Fuel Moto is selling PCV for zx14 with maps for the exhausts they sell. I am looking at getting that with the Yosh R77 Full exhaust.

OK, first off everything went well. I am now the first official ZX14 owner with a PC 5 installed.
The unit was not even done being built when I arrived. I think the wiring harness was still being done. and it being soldered to the unit. I did get some pics and video of the bike on the Dyno-meter. We were a bit short on time however. So I only got one map and the before and after is after the PC was installed. So basically with no map and then with the custom map. The PC 5 has the capabilities of holding two maps and you can install a switch to change between the maps on the fly. It also has plug ins for other items that PC is still working on. While waiting for the wiring harness one of the tech guys and myself removed plastics to get to the FI plugs. The PC5 is also a lot smaller than its predecessor. In the end with just the M4 slip-ons and the PC5 I gained 11 horsepower. The map is by no means all power. I was set to get more MPG. I do a lot of summer riding long distance trips. Across the board, 20% fuel was removed. The software showed the bike to be very rich. It is now much more crisp and less laggy, especially ion the low end. Tim was the map tech guy and he was very nice. He took me through the beginning to the end explaining every aspect of what he was doing and how he got to the end result of every change. I will post the graph once I receive the email form him. I have had the PC3 installed on last 2 bikes. The PV5 is a completely new animal. I am very satisfied with yesterdays results. I did ask Tim about air filter (going from stock to after market) While did not come out and say no. He did say that the Horse Power gain was so minimal that it really was not necessary. Those guys over at Dyno in Belgrade, Mt are a class act.

On the Dyno the biked pegged 167mph actual speed before he let off the throttle.
In the sound proof Dyno room, it was screaming. We had to wear ear protection muffs.
And the heat that the equipment and bike put off was outrageous. Tim the tech guy said he has done so many that it didn't even bug him anymore. But he actually sits on the bike during the whole tuning process with fans blowing on the motor to help keep the temperature down.

The PCV is bad timing for me. I've already got the PCIII, and am now getting the workshop to install the MF hub and ignition module. So I should be able to play with fuel and ignition timing for each gear.

Actually, Brock's put a PCV on Ricky Gadson's ZX-14 some time ago, before they were generally available.

No firsts here. Heh.

Anyone have any complaints about the PC5 on their G2 ZX-14? PC is still claiming it's only for the '09 models. I keep hearing it works fine on '08s but I want to make sure before I drop the cash.

I have the PCV and autotune working on my 08 SE, no problems yet seems to run fine. I have not put on enough miles yet for the auto tune to tune my bike yet I haven't had much time to ride lately.

Anyone tried the PC5 and autotune on a '06-'07 yet?

b00fa, you said you haven't put on enough miles for the autotuner to work? How long does that take?
I was under the assumption that the autotuner constantly made adjustments to the a/f to keep it optimal at all times. Like say a change in elevation or even a dirty air filter. Is this not the case? Does the auto tuner just basically go through a learning mode and then build you a map? If that's the case, why would it (the autotuner) be necesary after it sent a map to the PC5?

"Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!” HST

RE: Power Commander V

I have a base map in my PCV that is not quite what I have in my bike so the autotune will only change the trim settings that are in the current map by 20% "this can be changed but not recomended" so I need to ride it for a bit and then hook up my laptop and tell the PCV to accept the A/F trim settings from the autotune it then puts the new settings into the base map but it's not fully tuned yet I will have to ride it a bit more and the autotune will adjust the settings upto another 20% and I will repeat the cycle until I get a map that is tuned for my bike. After awhile I will not have to hookup my laptop to send the trim settings to the PCV anymore because it will be running optimal I think. A faster way would be to have the bike dyno'd to get the map and then the autotune will just adjust all the trims setting on the bike on the fly because they are within 20% to begin with in the custom map.

Thank you, all for the great info. I'm really glad I pulled the thread ttt. I feel safe going with a PC5 now. That LCD is cool as hell. Gotta have that too and I will need it cause I don't have a laptop.
