Dealer Woes for new 14R
08/31/12 3:46 PM

Hello Gentlemen,

I just recently purchased a new 14R from my local stealership, or so I thought. I got it for 12,900 before tax/title/tag, and 13,800 OTD. Which I think is a pretty decent price. My salesman raised his voice at me while I was negotiating, so you know I got a deal LMAO So a few days after we set a price on the zx14r, I come in there with 3500 cash. He tells me he will call me when it's in so we can finalize the paperwork.

That was on Monday, Today is friday. I call him up, and was just asking him, "Hey man, wheres my bike at.." He says there was accually a problem with finding one, and he's still going to find one for you "buddy", etc, etc, standard bullshit.

My question to you guys is, what do I do now? I had a feeling there was going to be a problem from the getgo, and now there is one. If they can't get me one in a timely manner, can I demand my money back?

Sincerely,

Guy-who's-trying-to-join-the-ZX14R-club.

Thanks for replying bikeman,

Our motor laws are pretty strict on dealers for this type of thing, as they have 4 business days before I'm legally entitled to my deposit. But I just don't know If I want to do that, because that's the lowest price I could get, and I don't want to spoil it, if it really is coming. Hence my Dillema.

I'm in Columbus Ohio, and I am quoted exactly 13,750 out the door. If anyone on here could match that price I would be inclined to get my deposit back alot sooner than I would have originally. If they can beat it I would get it back the very next busniess day. My # is 614-563-3075, Joshuah.

So we have alot of bike dealers on this site then? I've been riding for 12 years, and I can't wait to own something that my ass has been first on, hopefully. haha

I dream of a black 14r *Drools*

Romney cycles in Romney WV a few hours from you sell them at 12,800 OTD. No sales tax because it's out of state. I drive 5 hrs to buy bikes from them. Incredible bunch of guys there they will do you right. I've bought 2 bikes from them and a couple of my riding buddies have too. Check them out!

Wow! I'm skeptical on the tax thing, because I am pretty sure you have to pay taxes in the state you are registering? And I don't know how I would register it in WV? Can any Ohioans attest to this?

I will certainly give them a call though, thanks for the tip.

13,8 OTD is very good, 12,8 is amazing. I did a little research and it seems that if you can get one for 13,2 before TTL right now it's a fair deal. I bought mine a couple months ago for 13,5 plus TTL, which I was happy with especially for a green one, and they had to go halfway across Texas to go get it for me.

Word of advice too, if you're in the process of buying one: shop for insurance ahead of time!

Me: Married, riding for 28 years, no claims ever, with same agent for 6 years, my agent reluctantly quoted $2,500/year full coverage. And pretty much acted like he didn't want the business anyway.

Well your in the state capital of Ohio so it shouldn't be a problem.I bought bikes out of state and my local tag place had to verify the VIN on the frame and I payed the tax here in Pa.My state is real sticklers about title signing and witneses.Everything has to be done to the t.

Limey:

Well If you think about how much more the MRSP is for the SE, we are paying roughly the same. It's probably starting to take food out of the stealership's mouth (I have no moral obligation to that ;) )

But what did you pay OTD? You never said lol

& Yeah, I hear you on that one. I'm 19, Married, with no kids; and the lowest quote I could find was 7,500 dollars a year for full coverage. I'm just going to pay 200 for liability year until I own it outright. Call me irresponsible, but I plan on being really conservative with it's use. A "Sometimes" bike if you will.

Audio:

Yeah man, I understand what your saying about that, it's like that in OH too. You only pay when you register here I think. What Silver was saying is that there may be a way to pay no taxes at all, out of state or otherwise, if I'm understanding him correctly. Either way, it seems like a good deal to me *Shrugs*

I waited nearly four months for my 14R when I ordered it. I wanted one in the crate so my dealer got it from the Kawasaki warehouse in New Jersey.

As for the tax issue, if you buy out-of-state then the selling dealer has no obligation to collect the sales tax on the vehicle. However, when you go to register the bike in your home state you will pay the taxes, the title and the registeration fee at your local DMV. The selling dealer will give you the vehicles MSO (manufacturers statement of origin) which you in turn give to your local DMV. This is how the title is originated. If you have a lien against the bike then the MSO will be mailed to the lien holder. This is usually the bank which carries the note for you. You won't receive a title of ownership until you pay-off the loan. Also, if you carry a lien against the bike then the lien holder will require that you carry full coverage insurance in case something happens to their property.

Research all of this before you saddle yourself with a huge bike and insurance payment. A call to your local DMV/tag office in Ohio would be time well spent.

I was at my local dealer, Philly Cycle Center yesterday. They have one black and another one in blue in their showroom. I think they are asking for $13,000, I didn't ask for OTD price.

We have one sitting on the showroom floor here in Rhode Island for about 13500 or close to it. You can call the shop and ask for John G in sales and tell him Keith had you call. Im sure they might even work with you on the price somemore. We are not that far away from you. The shop is in North Kingstown RI. We had one guy (a friend of a service desk employee) come all the way from DC to pick up a blazed green SE. The one on the floor right now and I believe shes the last one is blue.

It might be worth a call. Again ask for John G in sales and make sure you tell him Keith told you to call. If you buy it from him he will stop busting my balls because I bought two bikes from Manny lol.

Goodluck,

I think 12,800 is dealer cost, so I'd be glad I got such a killer deal and would give them time to find one from another dealer. Be patient.

I got my new bike recently too, and it took a while for the local dealer to find my bike from another dealer, but I got it, and I knew they would hold true to the good price they gave me, so I waited.

But I got mine for about $900 more than you did, and I was happy with that price. Your deal is KILLER, so be glad of that. And the green ones are also harder to find, so keep that in mind, too. And some dealers may have green ones, but don't want to give them up, cause they may think they can sell them and make tine profit themselves.

And if your dealer can't find one, you can get your money back, so I wouldn't worry about it, just be patient and remind yourself of how much of a deal you are getting.......

Cause this is the first I've heard of getting one that for that price: dealer cost. WOW>

Hey man, Just left u a voicemail. I spoke with the owner of Ridersville Cycles (W.Va) a while back (July 12) and he quoted me $12500 OTD. He did say price may go up a little with the 2013s if the factory raises their prices. Its about a 5hr drive from Columbus (Im a west sider). Anyways, I've read some of the customer reviews and the main complaint about that dealership is "they're not too friendly and there service after sales isn't all that great." Hell, we live so far away who cares, I wouldnt be taking it back there for service anyways. Besides, the owner was pretty cool when I spoke to him and the price is right. Good luck man!

Good luck to you. I imagine you pissed the dealer off in the process, which doesn't do you any good. I'd ask nicely to have my money back and go somewhere like Ridersville and just pay them the 12.5 plus whatever they ask.

You won't get a better deal.

I hope you don't have to have service done at the dealership where you pissed them off.

Phatkaw, Romney is a volume dealer so whatever they loose in profits they make up for it in volume their showroom is HUGE!!! I'm sure ridersville is too. In WV riding season is pretty short so they try to get them out before the snow hits. Yes you will have to pay taxes when you return to your homestate and register. My buddy bought a 2012 with a 6yr warranty for 13,600 OTD. Would've been 12,800 without warranty. 2 yrs ago I bought my 09 R6 from them with 3k on it for 5k!!! and they threw in a new set of tires!! I've never had service or great prices on bikes from any local dealership (I'm in Virginia Beach, V.A.). I'll spend a day on the road $100 in gas to save a few k.

I searched the BikeTrader in 2005 for a Kawasaki Z1000.Best deal I found was in Chicago.Got in contact with the guy and set it up for 2 days from then.I rented a Enterprize Dodge pickup.Free mileage.Drove from Washington,Pa to Gary In just outside of Chicago.Me and my wife got a room and ate at a great restaurant.Called the guy and asked where we were and set it up for the next morning.Went to Chicago the next day in some suburb. It was at a Porsche race shop.Awesome cars.It was a 03 Black Z1000 with red wheels with polished lips like the new green ZX=14r.It was beautiful with 5000 miles.Took it for a little ride around the neighborhood.I paid him and he signed the title. These German guys that were getting their Turbo 930 Carrera tuned pushed my bike in my truck. All in all I got the bike for $5700 including renting the truck and all the expenses.Bike was worth over 6 Grand.I got to go on a little trip see a race team and eat at a great restaurant.A winner in my book.

This OP's biggest issue is going to be the insurance, if'n he's not a rich 19 yr old...

I am well past my teens, and I have only liablity insurance (not recommended, but its all I can swing for now).

I pay just over $15 a month for insurance on my ZX14R through Geico. About $182 a year.

But again, I don't recommend having liablity only.

Fowvay: I'm using a secondary line of credit, so I don't have a lien / note to worry about. And I understand all that stuff, I just thought SILVER14 was saying something different. Miscommunication is all. What Volkswagens do you own?

KoflaOlivieri: I called there, they wanted to much, and Is a little out of my range logistically. thanks though.

Creepy847: I litterally just drove to RH to sell my little Honda RS125 / track / GP bike. Again, thanks for the tip, but that's just a little too far. I just made the trip in one sitting and wanted to kill myself.

ZX14MAN64: I know it's a good deal, but if theres a better deal out there.... ya know? haha And yeah I on;y plan on having liability for a year or so, I will evantually switch.

BigWimp: Hey I got your message, I super appriciate the reach out. I will be sure to call them on tuesday and see what they can do. If it was 12,500 OTD, you'd bet your ass I would jump in my car!!!

Silver14: They wanted 12,850 out the door. Which is great but when you factor in time and gas, It's the same exact price I'm paying now. Thanks for the tip though.

AudioBoyz: That's an awesome gig man! I bet you think about how you got it everytime you get on it!

Mebgardener: OP is NOT a little rich boy!!! LMAO OP IS a Personal Trainer & Exotic Dancer, and makes a good amount of income for his age... I'm also getting liability for now, so it's only 200 a year. When I turn 21, I will get full..

I really appriciate the outreach everyone! I'm pretty savy with these types of things, but you guys are providing me some serious direction, and I couldn't be more greatfull. It seems like a pretty tightknit com. here, which I think is pretty cool. I will be joining the family soon, I think..

*Update!!*

So I went and got my deposit back from my local stealership. I was going to go with Ridersville and I just couldn't agree on terms. HOWEVER, after a little wheeling and dealing, Romney cycles just let a metallic sparkle black one go for 12,495 OTD! And I think September has 5.99% for 60 months, and 6 months free interest if I'm not mistaken. That makes me one goddamn happy camper.

I think I'm going to try to stuff it in my Honda Odessy. Does anyone know what the height and length of these dirty bastards are? More of length than height, I bet it would fit with no mirrors and strapped down.

Inb4, "Ride it home". I don't want to screw the rings up by cruising / taking it easy in the break in period. I'm more of a "MototuneUSA" kind of break in guy. Makes sense to me anyway.

Thanks in advance,

Joshuah..

Congrats! I forgot about Romney in my original post but saw somebody else mention them. Dont know about the dimentions and putting it in the back of a minivan. How about borrowing a pals pickup just to be safe? It'll fit in a S-10/ranger sized truck. If you dont mind, let me know about any complications with tax, title n registration stuff. No hurry though, just tore my meniscus so looks like Ill be out for a while. Again, congrats pally.
