Heh, I am more of a geek than a nerd, but the difference is quite subtle and has been lost over the decades. In High School I made it to the State finals in wrestling, and wrestled at West Point (along with karate, swimming, orienteering, etc.) but I was never a jock. Just a geek doing jock stuff.
I say geek because I was in Palo Alto when Woz and Jobs brought their wood-boxed Apple prototype to the Homebrew Club, and from that day forward I was in love with personal computers. I've built smokin' water-cooled monstrosities with dual SLI water-cooled nVidia graphics cards, and even the memory was water-cooled. I played Quake World : Team Fortress on that machine on an actual U.S. league team, but the team only lasted about 3 months. Brutal Mercy was the name of the team.
After Quake I played Mechwarrior 2 on it, also in a league clan fighting to take over planets from other clans. That was a very cool time of gaming, but those days are long gone.
I run my own internet domain, pball.com , with mail server, name server, ftp server, and web server. Just do it as a hobby, because I am a geek.
And I like to have a shot glass or two of Jack on cold winter nights while I'm messing with the computers. Which I have a lot of time to do, because I have no winter motorcycle project for the first time since 2008.
