Connie seats vs ZX14 seats
02/12/14 7:32 AM

About to do a 4000+ mile ride soon. I haven't even ridden the bike yet (2008 ZX14). And doing some research lots of people say they switched to the Concours seat and like it better.

Any input?

I will drag race the bike quite a bit but it is 100% a street bike. So while I will stretch it maybe 6"s I won't have it setup like my Turbo Busa which I tried to make a street strip bike but at 12" over it wasn't very street able for long distance rides.

So I would like a comfortable long distance seat and then I ll probably get a pan for dragging it if need be.

But #1 concern is long distance riding. This 4000 mile trip is in a few weeks. Then in June my son and I will be doing another 3500-4000 mile trip. After that I am not sure.

Plus my wife needs a back rest. I ll probably fab one up myself just so I have something soon. I'll post pictures of it if I do.

Thanks
Todd

I can't personally say how the connie seat is, but I got myself a Sergeant Cycle seat a few years ago and love it, more comfortable than stock and WAY less slippery. Price was pretty good compared to Corbin and I was happy with their customer service (they originally shipped the seat with the wrong bracket, but quickly shipped me the replacement + refunded me some of the cost for the inconvenience)

Interesting most of what I read was Corbin and Sargent were rated low by most users. I was thinking even a custom made seat specifically for me.

I just think that an out of box seat might be good for short distance ( less than 500 miles in a day). But for more serious riding I might be better at a custom made one. But for this last minute trip I figured a connie seat might be quick and cheap until I can get down to a seat maker. Or I might just try and do one myself after I get back.

Thanks for the input.

I like my Saddlemen TechStyle. It is betterthan stock however it is not the magic bullet cure for soar hamstrings. I think you need to buy a whole Goldwing for that!

There are a couple OEM seats for sale in our For Sale section. You might consider carving one out if the issue is that you are sliding forward on the seat. There's plenty of foam to cut away.

OEM is the lightest seat you can get. Saddleman is about 9.3 oz oz heavier than stock. Sargent is quite a bit heavier if I recall my research.

IMO the Concours seat blows away the stocker for comfort. Your wife will thank you too. It Butt fuggin ugly though with the half gray cover!

Had a Corbin, real hard and kinda low. Not bad on long trip though. I think the harder foam is actually better for long trips.

Had a Sargent, great seat and probably my favorite. Great overall seat. This was the solo seat with no rear portion. Wish I kept but it went with the bike when sold.

The connie seat has thicker foam and because of that is slightly taller which means less bend in the knees to reach the pegs. I used one for a short period of time but a friend of mine gave me a great deal on a Corbin seat which I now use. The Corbin isnt more comfortable but it is shorter and my short legs reach the ground easier. I still have the connie seat for sale in the "for sale" section. PM me if you are interested. Good luck on your trip !!!

My wife says that the Connie seat is WAY better on long trips. I've never gotten monkey butt on it either.

I have never rode on a stock unmodified ZX-14 seat, but the C-14 Lo Gel seat I had wasn't as comfortable as the Tobin I sold before it. It was roomier, though, which was important to me. Now I have a modified stocker seen here:

http://www.zx14ninjaforums.com/messages.cfm?threadid=4B30C089-1372-66AE-3B30D5FEFA46365A

It's as least as comfortable as the C-14 Lo-Gel and with the Airhawk saddle pad, there's no comparison. My daughter liked the passenger portions of both those seats, but she says the rear part of the modified seat (which is only re4covered) is just so-so.

Mad; I stay away from monkey butt too. I hear that's how aids started!

I switched to a connie seat and it was one of many motorcycle mods in my life that was well worth it. Soon as you sit on it you will notice a difference.
