I joined a couple days ago and been lurking around trying to get a feel for the site. I just bought my first 14 a few weeks ago. It has Two Bro's slip-on's and Muzzy links and a tiger tail fender eliminator. It is an 06 and had 1275 miles when I picked it up, I think I just rolled over 2300 yesterday. I live in Savannah, Ga. There's not much of a bike scene here and people that meet and ride are hard to find. I really bought the bike for commuting back and forth from work but I do like to get out on my off days and cruise around. I will post some pics when I get some good one's. I do have a TECH question though. The fuel gauge will read correct when I first start it up but after a minute or so it will read low fuel and flash all over the display. The fuel gauge assembly is 142 from parts unlimited, should I pull it out and check wiring connections or should I just replace the assembly. Any input would help out. Thanks.

Justin

Think this out and it says, 460 miles a year is the average that bike has been ridden. Possible a sticky float but that too would mean sticky injectors. 'Welcome'... To the troubleless gas tank threads; you won't find but that recent one you pointed out. Maybe one more or say they won't help.

You have that 4th variable I mentioned above that my go nowhere also. But to check the basic three wire amigos, you pull the seat and look for the two tank harness wires coming from under the tank. They may have a 3 wire or triangle connector and the other a flat 2 wire connector. I believe the more wires are needed the power to the fuel pump, computer, and ground.

The two wire connector has to have power and the return back to the computer. So where the pump grounds the tank, the two wire float is already grounded thru the tank. Therefore, the bike runs, it is not the 3-wire connector at this point. I would more look at the 2-wire connector that is coming off the tank on the right side; you sit on the bike and look down. If we are finding items on bike, we need to establish right and left.

Right side, 2-wire connector says I may ping I have a connection somewhere, but am I amigo'd somehow?:

1. Connectors not sent home; check to see if they are pushed in or not even connected but just dangling apart.
2. Wire out of connector; as if someone did not press down or pull up on the little snap that is present but has to move either way. They more tugged too hard and a wire is in question.
3. Ground is short or component is short internally; where as we have established ground somewhat, meaning, your dash shows good then it flashes the gas bar column. I've seen that happen with that 2 wire apart if memory recalls.

Thanks Hub, Will check that 2 wire connector today after work. Did check the 3 wire already just couldnt seem to find the 2 wire. Must be further down to the right than I thought.

Im going to wait a while before I pull the assembly from the tank. I hope it fix's itself first. It sat up a long time and im sure thats not good for a float assembly like that.

It fixed itself. I guess it was a sad part for sitting up so long.
