bar ends
05/10/10 11:13 PM

Hi guys just after some info on bar ends I just fitted a set of Driven D3 grips to my bike and was going to put the matching bar ends on but upon seeing that I would have to cut the threaded rod out of the clip ons I decided against doing it...... Now this is the crappy dumm bit... I want to put my stock bar ends back on simple sounding !!!! Every time I put them back on I can not get the things tight enough and they are still wobbly what is the trick ??? because I dont get it I know its somthing so simple but its just not presenting itself to me..

What threaded rod in the clipons? I still have my original top clamp with clipons and bar ends attached, and I don't recall any "threaded rod" in them? What did I miss?

Let me re-write that there is a welded threaded end on the original clip ons which the bar ends screw into. Where the D3 are the type that sit inside the bar and you tighten them up to expand the rubber grommit so as they dont come out

There's yer choice-cut,or go with your factory ends....they should tighten up fine....You're not getting them in far enough sounds like-maybe slide your grips/throttle up further towards the center?(course, you MAY have to move all your switch housings and such up as well?)Sounds "unfun" to me.Plus you'll have to do something about that plastic nib that goes into the factory bar(in the switch housings)..either cut that off,or drill a small hole for it further up your bar.Ya Privateer...there's a welded nut inside the bar end for the factory clipon bolt to attach into.

You can drill out the factory Kawi inserts to install the Driven inserts without cutting the bar ends off. iI didn this to install aftermarket ends on an old bike and it had more vibration. Weigh it before breaking out the drill.

Bennythejet,

I 2 have a set of Driven D3 grips have yet to put them on I will let you know if I run into the same problem you did if so I will be sticking with the stock ones. I saw a set on an 06 ZX-14 in fact it was on the Romans suspension video in the ZX-14 maintenance. It dose not show you how to put them on but they do fit and he has the stock bar ends on. I will be putting them on this weekend.

Which me luck...

WEll I chickened out I ended up just putting the grips on and returned the Driven bar ends I put the stock black ones back on and moved all the switch gear and throttle tube towards the outside of the clip ons to take up the roughly 4-5mm worth of gap that was left by using the new grips.... All went well and they look great the grips are a bit fatter than standard so they feel a lot different jury still out
I will do some time on them and report them back to you.

Throttlemeister makes really good bar ends and they have a throttle lock for highway riding to give ur wrist a bit of a break... checkout their website, heavy duty as well...

Well this weekend I tried putting on the Driven D3 hand grips and they went on fine and fit really nice but I too have a set of Throttlemeister and love them to death and they would not fit on with the D3's so one had to go and the D3's lost so I'm back to stock grips.

Has anyone done both?

Aren't the OEM ZX-14 bar ends specifically weighted/calibrated to counter/absorb/cancel ZX-14 vibrations?

But they don't. After riding for 4 hours my hands are numb. I'm hoping the LSL setup with TM heavy bar ends will have less vibration. If it doesn't, I'll pull the clutch-side bar end and fill the bar with damping foam.

here are some pics of the D3 grips on and fitted with the stock bar ends in place "really nice feeling grip the grooved bit actually keeps your hands in the correct place and stops you from getting lazy and mooving them outwards on the bars"
