FMF Apex Exhaust?
01/15/11 6:38 AM

Howdy All!
Looking at all the different options for pipes and I came across the FMF Apex exhaust.
I haven't seen very many posts or comments on them on this board and a couple of others.
Anyone have these or care to share an opinion on them?

Hi , Rob.

our top-selling Apex™ slip-on is the finest sport exhaust system available. .....incredible power at all rpm

Yeah, right. I haven't heard of them either and I have been reading exhaust threads for 3 years. If you haven't EVER heard anything about it, don't waste your money. That really is the way this game works, I've discovered.

RULE 1: If you just can't afford a full system for a year or more, buy a very cheap set of used slipons that you can trash when you are ready to spend on an exhaust that measurably improves performance. Slipons are easy to to install, will improve the exhaust note and reduce the weight for you which improves handling but I doubt if they ever increase hp much at all.

RULE 2: Buy what you hear people talking about. Ask serious racers/sport riders about slipons v full sytem. I have and I've read numerous others asking the same. Those who have any experience with high performance will never recommend slipons. A full system will drop the weight a lot more, will increase hp, looks, sound and the best part---a full system costs only a little more than slipons by same manufacturer.

RULE 3: Buy a system that comes with a map made for that pipe on the same bike you have. You will need to load the map into a PowerCommander to optimize F/A ratios and prevent engine damage. I NEVER hear anyone complain about loosing power anywhere in the powerband with a full system. I believe that is a myth possibly the result of poor maps.

Here's the pipes to research. Look at the dyno charts and just listen to what people tell you on the forums.
Brock's CT duals or CT single. Brocks Alienhead and Shortmeg are also good ----anything Brocks is quality high performance. Greta map support, too.

Akrapovic -----the Carbon Fiber Ti systems are excellent. Akra Evo is the one i always hear about. AKRA EVO

There you have it, Rob....that should narrow it down for you. Slipons are better than stock but a full system is so much better. If you decide to go cheap for now, my suggestion is to go REALLY cheap and don't be too picky. You will be upgrading some day.
