Supersprox Rear sprocket.
10/06/13 11:46 AM

When installing this sprocket...did you install with the lettering facing out,or in?Also...there is a tiny bit of 'offset' with the gear itself and the carrier.Will this cause any issue with the performance of the chain and all?Thanks Guys!I seem to feel a very slight vibration under certain speeds...rpms.Anyone else feel this after installing this steel sprocket?I looked at the teeth...they have no odd wear going on...like maybe one side of the sprocket is misaligned against the chain..both sides of the teeth look fine.Could this 'vibration' be the chain run rolling across the upper chain pad on the swingarm?The chain is adjusted correctly.(play)

I don't want to go through the switching out with the other factory sprocket to see if it's actually something with this new sprocket...I will if I have to...perhaps it's just the new sprocket working in?IDK...any help would be appreciated...ride safe guys...have a great day;)

The 'vibration' feels very very mild...but it's there.

Did you torque it down in a crisscross pattern like you would with a car rim? Your offset in the right direction? Is it fully seated into the rubber damper properly? The right way? I think there might be a right way and a wrong way when setting it in the damper in the rim, or at least I thought I remember reading that in the book, which I do not have on hand at the moment.

Oh, you did not put on a new chain either did you. It might be the chain and sprocket mating with each other.

@Grn: I have a 42 and a 44 tooth... didn't notice any vibration.

Remember though my OEM final drive was shot so I replaced all three members simultaneously. That may or may not have anything to do with your finding.

I tightened it down crisscross as always...with a final tightening clockwise.The factory sprocket has no 'offset' about it...you install lettering facing outwards.This gear has a miniscule offset.I can't imagine it would create a problem since the chain rollers are wider than the teeth anyway.I'll run it for a while..see if it smooths out.I'm not really sure this is what is causing some vibration.I installed new headers(akros)as well...AND new plugs.We'll see how she does after some more riding.But thanks all for the inputs here...much appreciated;)The easiest route would be to reinstall my other still good sprocket.See what that does,if anything.

"It might be the chain and sprocket mating with each other"...this is what I'm thinking as well...probably smooth out in a bit...we'll see..

"Your offset in the right direction?"...well...the 'offset' is so small...most wouldn't even think anything of it...I just happened to run my hand around the gear and carrier and noticed it...otherwise...you wouldn't know it was there...it's small....very.It isn't 'inset' on the other side...like it was produced wrong.Just that the gear(which IS separate and riveted on)is a shade thicker on the outside.The rollers can move back and forth on the teeth okay...no binding with that.Probably just new...that's probably what it is...

Haven't ridden her...rain...today maybe...probably my imagination anyway...;)It's so 'minimal'....probably nothing.I checked the other side of the gear...it is a teensy bit 'inset' on that side...I'm not gonna worry about it....unless it starts showing some odd wear pattern or something...so far...looks brand new;)

I've used Superprox rear sprockets on two different bikes now and if there are any better sprockets out there, I haven't seen 'em. Long life, reduced weight and zero issues over tens of thousands of miles. Any aftermarket wear part that offers any sort of lifetime warranty has to be good or the manufacturer would go broke paying warranty claims.

I switched to a SuperSprox and I love it. Not only is it great looking but the outer ring is steel so it will last! Mount it with lettering out.
