OEM Centerstand
10/04/14 9:57 AM

Just thought I'd share some thoughts on my centerstand install.

First of all, for those of you worried about weight, don't. You must remove the small fairing and bracket which weigh 20oz's and the stand itself is less than 4 lbs. The wimp handle that comes with is not needed if you are worried about weight.

Shame on Kawi for the amount of crap that they claim needs to me removed such as the fairings, rear cowl bla bla bla. Pipes come off and that's it. Tucks in nice, looks fine and un-weight's your suspension all winter long! Takes less than an hour and no 14 rider is going to notice the weight. Highly recommended.

Not really a review, just wanted to dispell the myth you are adding a bunch of weight.

How sure are you about that? You cover features. You cover installation. You cover your recommendation.

You know what ya got there don't ya? You got yourself a review, even if a brief one.

Thanks, I have been on the verge of buying a centerstand but did not want to add 10 pounds to the bike. Not that it matters that much the zx has plenty of power for me and I weigh 230 anyway.

Billy,

The handle is the heavy piece to grab onto. Where it mounts you could probably use a large leather belt strap and bolt that on you need to yank on something on the bike.

If you find some sort of idiosyncrasy to dropping the stand down to center the legs, you can stand on the foot pad, step down on it so the bike rocks right up on it. That meant the foot was both the handle and the yank up = No handle installed so less weight via found the idio to lifting without handle.

The easiest answer is to install the handle and go thru the motions. The next is to attempt without using it. If no joy, leave the handle on.

Someone would have to have a very highly calibrated butt to notice 4 pounds attached that low on the bike!!!

I have a centerstand on my bike, with the handle installed, and use it frequently. I like to oil my chain right after a ride while it's still warm and the centerstand makes it super quick and easy.

If you have a full after market exhaust system,I wonder if you could install a centre stand with Clevis pins ,just for winter storage. No return spring just hanging.something to avoid stands taking up floor space

Could probably use clevis pins but would be a PIA to put on, would be easier to add spools to swing arm and get a stand or purchase something like an ABBA stand to keep both ends up.

We have a couple of 14s, and pit bull stands, was thinking centre stands might be a cheap and easy way to reduce the footprint

I have a PitBull stand I have had for years, indestructible! Best stand I have ever owned!

The handle imo is a nice looking piece of knurled aluminum that weighs all of maybe a couple ounces...I like it.

I think mine is thumping the rubber tab moutned to the exhaust on big rolling bumps. The springs doesn't seem to hold it in place very well when riding. Unless I didn't install it right.

Just installed mine, not as easy as everyone says - personally pretty bad at tools. Took me 3 hours, while half way I grabbed my father in law to help.

The handle is a pain to install.

The spring also didn't look very strong.

What annoys me is the handle(foot) would hit onto the exhaust pipe.

Emeow,

You must be using after market exhaust without the center stand stop. I believe someone in this forum made some mods on the handle(foot) so that it doesn't touch the exhaust pipe.
