new avon storm tires
03/09/14 3:40 PM

Just ordered the new avon tires that claim to have better wear and fuel mileage. Now I have been running Avons on all of my bikes since the mid 90's. I have always loved everything about them. This is the first set going on the zx14r. I did not like the metzlers. never made friends with them so I didn't trust them too much. Will keep you posted on how these tires work.

I burned a couple of sets of original Storms on my ZZR 1200 and thought they were OK. I would think the new models would be even better. On the original Storms, you had to keep an eye on them when they approached the end of their service life because they would turn to shit in a very short time.

Well tires are on the bike. Now just waiting for this damn weather to break so I can run them. Danno--- I have been running Avons since 1997. I have always loved the wear and grip with them. I had the storms on my Yamaha warrior. I never felt like they were going to slip out under me and I rode that thing harder then any cruiser should have been pushed. Will let you guys know how I feel about these new tires as soon as I can. till then be safe.

I have a Metzler on the front and I really like it. Grips in the twisties and neutral handling everywhere else.

well I got to test out the new tires today. I must say I am very impressed with them. I have put on over 1000 miles on them so far. up to today it was all back and fourth from work. I did notice that my average mpg went up to about 43 to 44 mpg when commuting. Today was the first time I got a chance to put them through their paces and the grip was perfect. Feedback was precise and grip never let me down. They are wearing in very well too. Avon has done it again.

pushed the new tires to the edge yesterday. (literally) they did not complain once. Avon has done it again. Funny thing is. You can actually see the line between the center hard rubber and the sides softer compound. I would post pics but for some reason this 4m wont let me. It always tells me to re log back in. I do and same problem.

I haven't used the picture function on the forum for a long time. It's pretty good if you have a few pics you jshow rtepeatedly but idf you get 15-20 in your collection, it starts to uplod very slow. You can't delete anything either. I just use Photobucket and post the IMG code here.

So They have Storms in dual compound now. very interesting. The on;ly reason I didn't want them was becuase they were single compound back a few years.

Yes, that are called the storm 2 xm. Extended mileage. I had the storms on my warrior and they had over 4000 miles and still looked great. Never once felt like I pushed them too hard either.

thanks. Actually, I came across those when I Googled Avon Storms. heheh, I was afraid to get Storms because I thought they might last so long, I'd never get to switch tires 'til I was ready to sell the bike! My busa has over 6k miles andstill has the the stock Bridgestones. I usuallly get 8-10k out of a rear tire before I hit wear bars. It's kind of embar ing! I have to persuade people that I really do ride the bike!
