I have the GoPro HD and the suction cup sticks just fine to the tail. Never had a problem with it on the lower either (just don't stick it too low that you drag it in a corner.---even though that would make a really cool clip, it would be the end of the camera. I always used a string as a safety wire but never had the mount let go.
I have a mac with iMovie and that seems to work great for editing and uploading to YouTube.
For the same $300, you might just get yourself a better all around camera:
1. with a view finder (GoPro was supposed to come out with an attachable backpack module that would allow real time viewing. You don't use a view finder during motorsports anyway but it would be nice to see the view angle of the cam when you attach it to the bike and also if you want to ever use the camera to shoot more conventional footage.
2. with nightshot. GoPro sucks at night.
3. with zoom. Not that you'd use it while riding but wouldn't it be nice for other stuff?
4. Maybe other stuff. Haven't looked at video cams since 1999. There are some special features that the GoPro is capable of too--such as slowmo, singlr frame photo /3seconds, couple other settings. Haven't really played with it yet.
Small as some of the new video cams are, I doubt if you will find a camera that is more compact than the GoPro. Also, the GoPro is waterproof (inside it's plastic shell with rubber gasket sealed door. The GoPro comes ready to stick on your car or bike and get going, IMO, the best video I shot was my first. Other cams are going to require that you rig up some kind of mount to your bike. I think the GoPro is probably going to be your best dedicated bike camera. No hassels, it's all set for you.
