Tsukigi Cannon Exhaust
06/01/09 8:58 PM

Has anyone got a Tsukigi "Cannon" exhaust on their '14 - or heard one on the street? I'm interested to know if they are "too" loud. I commute on my bike and ride through the 'burbs at night, so I don't want something too crazy (or illegal). I have a Two Bros. slip-on on my C14 which is loud but not "too" loud in my opinion, so I'm wanting a full system about that loud (or a little louder would be OK).

This is how the Tsukigi Cannon looks...

And a YouTube video

I am still debating between the Cannon and the A-head. I hear the Cannon's header dips down a little farther, reducing ground clearence. Any input on that?

Loud is what I want. I'm just a little worried about smacking a brand new header coming down from a wheely or something. I think the clearence is more of an issue with the bike lowered but who knows - I might want to do that some day.

Also would like to see a dyno graph from a Cannon. Unvarifiable but reliable reports suggest that the peak hp is a bit higher but what happens below that compared to an A-head is what I would like to see.

Also maps - there is one available for the 14/Cannon, right? I imagine a decent map would be a good place to start with a PC5 and autotune.

from the busa forum

I know it was advertised to be about 10db less, I just know it made a huge difference. This baffle brings the sound level down where the Oval cans are that I have had in the past. You can see from the photo the baffle goes all the way from the tip up to the front where it joins the mid pipe and they send plenty of packing.

Very nice setup for those that like the look of the Tsukigi Cannon but don't always want the sound. It's interchangeable with the other baffle also and isn't hard to pull in and out.

Good news for those of us a little on the fence about the Cannon. Aparently there is a new baffle that will quiet you Cannon down a lot when you don't want to wake the dead.

I have a 09 Monster Edition and I just ordered a Tsukigi Cannon, Bazaaz Zfi and BMC race filter. I will let you guys know what it sounds like and what power it makes as soon as I get it installed. I get it all in Tuesday so I should have it on by Wed then I'm gonna strap it to the dyno. I had it dynoed this past Wed all stock made 170hp and 106ft lbs of torque. So I'm hoping for some good increases. Ill post more input as soon as I get it!

Thank you, Gawn. I'll be waiting. Almost ready to get the same zaust here.

Did you know there is an easy install/remove quiet baffle that will cut the decibles way down? It may also potentially restore some bottom end for street riding, I hear.

No I have never heard of the inserts for that pipe. I will call HPC and find out how much they are if the Canon is too loud. And thanks for the welcome guys!

^^Seems to me the baffle was ~$160. Worth it. A lot cheaper than a whole new quieter muffler would cost and a lot easier to swap around.

The Cannon sounds soooo good!!! It is very loud, but it's a deeper different kind of loud. It doesn't sound anything like any other muffler I've heard. I love it!!!

OK, ok - sounds cool- how is performance with the Bazzaz? Most interested in the bottom end loss compared to stock pipes. I know the top end has to be about as good as it gets.

I noticed no bottom end loss. This bike is now blistering fast!!! It was a night a day difference! I would recommend this set up to any and everybody!!! The Bazzaz was honestly a pain in the ass to install but the results were worth it! I will post some dyno numbers after I get it back to ABEL Racing. I bought everything from HPC and they have gone out of their way to help me so I highly recommend using them!

Great to hear, gawn. I'm so close to buying that pipe. Glad to get your testimonial on the bottom end. Good news, indeed. I really have to ask some questions about dyno charts. I think the hp/tq curves make sense to me but I am always curious about the power band from idle which does not show on the chart. I usually try to guess what it would look like based on what I see it doing between 3-4K rpm. I don't know if it even pays to try to guess at this.

Gawn, did you have a chance to weigh the whole Cannon system before install?

Anyone know what the weight is supposed to be? Best answer I got was that the Brock's short meg and the Cannon were "similar" in weight. The Cannon looks bigger than a short meg or a A-head so I am inclined to guess it would be a pound heavier??? Any thoughts or facts?

My whole shipping weight which included the complete exhuast system, the Bazzaz ZFi; all the wiring, and the air filter plus the packing and the wieght of the boxes totaled 13 lbs. It was literally less then just one of the stock cans. The factory header is very heavy also. I was looking at my dyno chart and it doesn't start til 5000 rpm's so when I get back to the dyno I will aak to see if they can start lower this time.

Thanks gawn. I'm sure you won't get any reading less than 2,800 rpm. That is about the lowest I've ever seen represented and I've been told dynos just can't get a reading any lower than that. If you say you can feel no bottom end loss, that's more important info than a dyno anyway.

Thanks for the weight info, too.

Too loud for me and IMO they hurt the look of the ZX14.

I came extremely close to getting the cannon for the 14.....I just came across the turbo kit for a good price and went with that instead. I'm not a big fan of a loud exhaust on my bikes tho, so the baffle kit would be a "must have" for me. Personally I think the cannon is one of the best looking systems out for the 14

I think it is one of the best looking kits also. One of the reasons for buying it. some other key factors for me were that it makes more power than any other kit out there, It only weighs like 8 pounds (the whole system), and I haven't seen one EVER here in Oklahoma. That is a big thing for me! I love that it's unique! Everybody buys the Brock's systems, and they are great! But where I bought my Cannon they have dyno tested all systems( the Alien Head, megaphone, Yosh, Vance and Hines, ect.) None of them made the power the Cannon did. The closest one was the Brocks Alien Head.
