Under screen -vs- top tree gauges
07/21/09 6:10 PM

After installing the turbo, I put a few gauges above the OEM cluster, and under a 'triple bubble' Pugh. It worked great to see the gauges, but I did not like the height of the screen. Trade-offs...

I mocked up a new rough gauge mount to place on the top tree, after cutting and welding support for the tree. The screen is back to a standard Pugh double bubble:

The gauges block the speedo from 40 MPH and below, and RPM from about 3K and lower.

another trade-off. egads

I wish I could find some very small digital gauges, maybe rectangular, say 1 1/2" x 1"... or maybe a singular, small 3:1 gauge, fuel PSI, oil PSI and boost...

Yeah, now I remember seeing your pics on the old forum. I loved the look of your council with the gauges above but the double bubble windscreen makes the bike look much better looking overall than the triple bibble and you still have your cool gauges. With the previous configuration, you made the gauges fit the council as though they were OEM. The new arrangement looks more modded and I like that. I go for honest to goodness high performance looks and that usually means less styling and more brute utilitarianism. It has a beauty of it's own that is a little different than OEM. I think the stylistically, less refined look of your gauges matches your filter sticking out of the fairing. I love that. Visually, your whole set up conveys the idea of extra high performance. I'd probably go the same route if I went turbo. If there was only some way to show off heavy-duty connecting rods........

+10 for the new look, like Rook said the other way looked as though it might have came that way from the factory but the look of the windscreen was, IMO not that great!!!!

Love the new configuration

Thanks you guys, ou'll are encouraging. Those gauges on the tree just look so big... making them outta place.

Either I need to find some smaller digital gauges, or maybe move them again.

I like the screen lower too, but it still gives me space for a remote radar front panel.

^^I agree, smaller would be better but you have it set up really cool right now so don't fret over it for a while. Black faces with blue numbers on your speedo & tach would seem to make it match well and it wouldn't be hard to test the look by simply cutting some tagboard circles of the perfect diameter and spray painting them black. I'm sure that would be a little harder to read if you go for precision.
