Bachelor’s degree - Finally
12/15/12 4:49 PM

Got all my Bachelor’s degree courses completed and made Sigma Beta Delta in the process. I now have a B/A in business management to build upon my associate in accounting. I realized the hard way that you can’t get very far with a mere associate degree these days.

Hope I am marketable enough to get a decent job, but we'll see in this economy. Fingers crossed.

Anyway, its been a lot of time and effort to complete the degree program while having to hold a full time job at the same time as being the sole administrator of my deceased father's estate, studing for other general classes I needed (CLEP tests can be busters, and I finally got the third one I needed taken, passed and over with), all at the same time. In addition to doing my best to get my alcoholic brother to complete and benefit from treatment (but that's another story)

For the last few months I didn't have enough free time to do anything. All weekend studying, and even every evening after work I had something that I had to get done, even my lunch hour was spent doing something I had to do, then quickly get back to work....................But the glorious day of relief has finally come. DONE! This post is mainly a bit of encouragement to anyone else contemplating starting back to school to get a degree, or even GED…………do it. It’ll give you a leg up on the competition, and you need all you can get these days. And your quality of life may be increased, and how much value can place on that?

Good job man.As for your brother,as a recovering alcoholic and drug addict just support him emotionally. As for my self I had to want to do it.17 years clean and sober I'm 1 drink away.I had to change all my so called friends and stay away from places that sell booze.Good luck.

Congratulatios on 17 years. Good for you.

Yes, I realized the hard way, if the person with the addiction don't want to quit, it don't matter how much I, or anyone else may want them to.

Congratulations, job well done. This reminds me of my first day of psychology class. Most students in my class were 18-20 year olds. I remember the professor asking each of us to share with the class why we were there. One by one students shared their reasons. The guy sitting next to me got up and said, "I'm 62 years old, it is never to late to learn." I remember how much we laughed that day making fun of the guy.

Now I am 56 years old, and going back to school. lol He was right, it is never too late to learn.

Good for you.

I just finished at 48. Never too late to better yourself.

One gentlemen in our graduating class earned his associate, and he must've been in his late 70s.

Congratulations on completing you Bachelor's Degree. I completed mine when I was fifty and I had to do some soul searching during those tough times (juggling schedules while working full time, giving up overtime pay, paying extra gas bills, books, etc.) When I was at the halfway point (point of no return,) my Mother gave me some good advice. She said, "time will go by whether or not you are finishing school or not. You can be happy with what you have already accomplished, or you might always regret not finishing." I finished and have never regretted it. If I never make a dime more for completing my education, it was worth it for the feeling of accomplishment and knowing I have pushed myself to achieve my goals. Congratulations again and make a new goal not to waste the precious time you will now have available that you didn't before. Ride On!

Thanks for the good words, guys.

"She said, "time will go by whether or not you are finishing school or not.""

This is strange, because that is ***exactly*** what I always tell myself, and say to others as encouragement, when contemplating where or not to take on a new project, such as this.

Your mother is wise.

Congratulations on your hard work and perseverance. I often wish I had done the same thing. Would have saved a lot of backbreaking physical work over the years.
