A lot of us have used DDM and personally I have had perfect performance of mine. I suggest 35w 6,000 warmth, which gets you as much usuable light as the 55w 4k versions, with a nice blue appearance to boot.

Don't have any information about the ones you are looking at. At least, consider DDM.

DDM Tuning

They are pretty easy to install. Be sure to specify (and reiterate in bold print) you want miniature ballast units, as they are easier to mount.

I put everything in the upper cowl, so if I remove the upper cowl, it all comes off in one piece and I only have to disconnect the main leads from the wiring harness. I have used silicone adhesive (sort of like clear silicone sealant) from Locktite to affix the ballasts to the inside of the upper cowl, and used tie-wraps to affix bubble material wrapped starter modules to the headlamp frame that bolts inside the upper cowl.

So everything is one "unit". Just have to figure out where your free spaces are. I have two up near the windscreen, so you can just see them between the top of the instrument cluster and the inside of the windscreen. The other two are down along the sides of the upper cowl.

It is amazing how well that silicone adhesive works, thousands of miles and many railroad tracks and none of them have come loose.

By the way, the ballasts get hot, so having them where air will flow over them is a good idea. I can feel the heat through the side of the upper cowl after running the highs on the way home from the American Legion Riders meeting, for example. Not hot enough to bubble the carbon fiber, but very warm.

hawk those are halo angel eyes, ill explain why i never bought those. first you have to tear down the whole front end to remove the headlights (housings) then because they are glued together you have to bake the housings in the oven to soften the glue to get them apart. oh did i mention that if you screw them up those housings are several hundred dollars each . so thats why i passed

Privateer, can you answer this for me;

Im putting in HIDs from DDM, no time to get this wrong and just got off the phone with a rep there who said:

"We carry two types of H11 HIDs, one with a straight base and one with a 90 degree right angle base. In somme cases the right angle base is required for space reasons and this requires a extra wire we will send...we don't know anything about motorcycles here, we do almost exclusively BMW and other cars..."

Q) My stock H11 bulbs have their connectors (as you know) at a 90 degree [down] angle, can anyone tell me if I should order the STRAIGHT base or 90 degree base HID kit. This is the digital balast versions btw.

Q) Can the ZX-14 stock wiring harness handle 55W (5000k) H11 low beams AND 35W (5000k) H9 hi beams without damage or issue??

Thanks guys, speedy response from anyone with experience is deeply appreciated!!

Drew

Get the 90 degree ones, easier to install imho.

I am guessing the stock headlamp connectors can handle 55w H11s and 35w H9s. It sure has no problem with all 35w-ers.

Why are you getting 55w H11s ? If you get 6k 35w HIDS, you have as much light as 4k 55w HIDs and your bike can easily handle 4 of the 35w HIDs.

In other words, there is absolutely no reason to get 55w, you don't need them. When I flip on my 6k 35w H11s, it lights up low tree limbs and high road signs very far out. For 100 yards out front, it is like daytime.

Just saying, I can't see consuming any more of my bike's electrical output than necessary, since I plan to add headed grips, and sockets for heated clothing. And who knows what else.
