Can't get calibrated using Speedohealer v4
04/25/13 5:42 PM

I installed my new speedohealer Sat after changing my gearing to 16/43 my problem is when I used either the Precise Method and Estimated Method my actual speed on my speedometer would be way out from my GPS reading. I've reset the speedohealer and tried three more times but didn't write dwn my results. I also tried the Est method
Precise Method=
GPS SPD = 71
SPEEDOMETER = 85
CAL SETTING = -16.6
......................
EST Method=
16/43 = -14.9
GPS = 74
SPEEDOMETER = 90

I will try this again when I return from outta town and reset the SH. Now I also verified my settings were correct by turning the ignition to on and veiwing the leds on the SH.

Any Ideals??

gps is not really reliable from my experience there is a noticable delay on it so you have to keep it at a steady speed to ensure you get the correct speed on your gps. for me its easier just to have the wife set the cruise on her car at 60 and adjust from there. on mine with the same gearing and 190/50 tire the setting i had was -15% and it was really close now ive got the 190/55 so ill be playing with that whenever winter decides to go away here lol

When I use the SH app on the Estimated setting, I noticed that I had COMPENSATE FOR FACTORY ERROR checked. When using this setting, I get -14.9, with it unchecked I get -10.3 Is the -13.8 you used come from the Precise Method? When I re-enter my info I get the following: CAL SETTING = -16.5 using the speed of :
GPS SPD = 71
SPEEDOMETER = 85

Now, as far as my GPS goes for accuracy it is spot-on with my speedometer in my car. I also verified it in a rental car with a digital speedometer and it was again spot-on.

Your speedohealer should be sitting at -13.Right in there for your gearing....set it at -13...then small calibrations...you need to find one of those roadside speed radars....make your passes...and recalibrate.You'll get it.

You can also be riding...find a road with the mile markers.At whatever mile you choose to start...run the bike at 60 mph...pass the mile marker and immediately start counting seconds.When you reach 60 seconds(one thousand one,one thousand two,one thousand three..etc)...you should be turning over another mile.It doesn't matter WHERE you start counting at...I mean...just when the odo turns over to another mile...start counting and observe WHERE in relation to the mile marker you are at.Did you just pass it?How many seconds till the ODO turned to another mile.Now repeat that...pass the marker...and count how many seconds till the ODO turns over again.It should be the same amount of seconds IF the healer is set right....If it's turning over in fewer seconds...and you're holding a steady 60..the healer is set for TOO MUCH.Back the value off a couple of increments(NOT THE FIRST NUMBER)The speedohealer not only corrects the speed...but also maintains the ODO as well...so it's NOT fluctuating with the speed changing function.In other words...it can display a faster or slower speed...but the odometer will continue to remain accurate.(One very good feature of the Healtech V4)

Try -13.Then go from there with the small increments on the healer(the first number AFTER the .(point)mark on the display..)You may have to stop several times to get it right...but -13 should get you VERY CLOSE.

At 60 mph,it should take you one minute to reach another mile on the ODO.The markers just help you visually to see where the 'mile' is at...but it can be wherever the odo turns over...and 60 seconds later.At 60 mph.(indicated)

One cool little deal with the 14R...the speedo is calibrated already...it's only off by two to three MPH(faster)...so it makes riding and matching speed limits very easy.

Grn14,thanks for the advice. Before I installed the speedohealer I took the bike out with my gps to verify my bikes speedometer and the bikes speedo was off by 5-6MPH. Right know I haven't notice any radar signs lately but my gps is pretty accurate. I get on the hwy to due all my calibrations, I will retry the calibration when I return home this evening.
Also how did you come up with -13? I'm using the SH app that I down loaded from Healtechs site and the -13.8 is what I'm getting.

Yeah...that sounds like it's in the ballpark....this was on my 07 with 16/43 gearing....Naturally,I had to tweak the values on the website to suit my bike...so they were in the -13 range somewhere.Stock gearing if I remember correctly was -5 or -7 something...can't remember exactly.I got the best results setting it by doing the 60 mph in a mile thing.GPS should be fine I would think.

Being off by 5%...yes...that's sounds right.The faster you go with that factory setting...the more it's gonna read out of whack.A -7.5 setting per the website for stock gearing works pretty close.

i suck at math so i did it the easy way for me lol. i held speed at 100mph (by gps)and speedo read 85 thus -15% oh but now that i think of it when i did mine i had the 200/50 tire on it, dont know if that makes a difference or not. but then i had the wife set her cruise at 60 and it was really close. now I have the Bonneville pro instead of the speedo healer so there may be a difference there too. i plan on using the sped healer #'s for the 190/55 as a starting point but will check vs. wives car first to see how far its off. if that fails ill zero the bonneville out and do the ole faithful 100mph gps vs speedo and do it that way again

Okay I'm good now. I reset the SH and left it in transparent mode and went out on the hwy and I was disappointed because it was reading very high on my speedometer. Didn't think the gearing change would make the speed read that much off. Anyway she's locked in dead on with my GPS. Thanks everyone that help.

If I recall the SH website calibrator even asks what size tire you have. That makes a couple mph dif. Even a well worn tire v new does.
