Camping gear
10/04/16 10:15 AM

Hi all.
Right now the wife and I are planning on doing our first bike camping next summer. I have a Coocase top box and Blaze Saddlebags as well as a soft top bag. I want to know if any of you have a tent and sleeping bags that pack down very small that don't cost a fortune. We will most likely just take camping gear, a small stove, coffee and snacks etc and get food along the way. So basically we just need to cover the sleeping part for 2 people.
So, let me know what works for you or what didn't work.

Thanks
Mad

After many years of mountain and rock climbing and backpacking with the old school MSR type stove with a separate fuel bottle my son lent me his Jet Boil setup because my trusty 25 yr old MSR didn't work anymore. Jet Boil is the way to go - I went and bought one for myself after the short 2 day trip with my sons gear. For boiling water for coffee and backpack meals it is hands down the way to go.

As far as the tent: I have a very small 2 person backpack tent that is a tight fit for 2, I would recommend a 3 person 3 season tent since you don't have to carry it on your back and a bit of room is what you want for comfort. For the pads go with modern inflatables 3/4 length and if it was me I would have a 20 deg down bag in a waterproof stuff sack.

And I would plan on a simple motel about every 3rd day also.
