Too many wide open spaces makes it easy to forget to keep an eye pealed for cops. The offense isn't much but I'd look into hiring a traffic attorney if you think your license could be suspended for more than 6 months. Probably cost you $500 bucks but save you from cutting the season short by 3 months. (or you could just ride but then you really don't want to get caught).

.....it's too late.) Yeah, we've got those kind of bubbles on cop cars around here too. Sometimes I'll see a car with a rack on top and I slow down because it looks just like one of those flat lights on top of a cop car from a distance. I have rocketed past cops parked on the opposite side of the road around here a few times but they can't do much if there is a wall between the two sides of the expressway. I can't believe they turned around and came after you on the other side of the road. You have some tough cops by you. I think it was a smart choice to pull over and wait for them though.

If you had a detector, it definitely would have saved you. In that situation, you would have picked him up way before he could even see you. I have one and I wouldn't be without it. It has saved me and my group on more than one occasion. Of course, in NY, if it saves you once, it has already paid for itself! Big fines and huge insurance premiums!

Good question often discussed in the past. Why not make a whole new thread in Accessories? I bet you will get a lot more replies. I'd be interested to get this info too.

Hey Blue, sorry about the poo poo. But IMHO, you shouldn't ride a bike like this without a radar detector.

As far as detectors, I have the 9500IX installed on a Techmount (stem-mount) with quick-release adapter. The sound is integrated with a Belkin Rockstar using ER6Is. That way, I can listen to MP3s & hear the poop at the same time! . And yes, my detector has paid for itself. "Iceman99" can vouch for that. We had a thread on this a while back.

Couple cool things...the database software can be updated (weekly) for traffic light/speed cams/traps etc. Firmware can be updated as well when available.

If you don't have a laptop you will need an AC/DC converter so you can update the IX software/firmware next to your desktop. I have a SLR USB cord that works for communications between the IX & my computer.

Remember, a radar detector does not make you invincible as your eyes are just as important (some cops use POP and "the pace" depending on area), but it helps a lot. It's a great tool. Especially with conventional radar such as K/KA band which is used on the back roads (here). And the back roads are where I like to spend the vast majority of time riding the 14. Freeways are for squids. . Interstates are taking chances even with a radar detector because Lidar/laser is used in most cases (here), as soon as you are targeted by laser you are basically fucked...even sometimes with a radar jammer because a trained cop will aim for your helmet. In these cases, this is where your eyes are your best defense. Cops are pretty easy to spot on the interstate using Lidar. Often by bridges, medians, over passes or long straights etc. Lidar is only used in a straight line to the best of my knowledge because it will give a cosine error if not used correctly.

As far as the ticket you have, definitely fight it. Been there done that. Admit to nothing ever even at the scene. Ticket costs are one thing...but increased insurance rates suck. I am sure you will come to a much better compromise. Also, get a radar detector and "practice" using it in your cage and bike before you push the performance envelope. Good luck!

Sorry for the long ramble above.

This is kind of interesting and good to know: HOW RADAR GUNS WORK.

I have a lot of bookmarks saved from the winter on this shit. Believe me...I know how you feel. Time to hit the books Blue.

Check your local library for a book called "Beat your ticket: how to go to court an win". It has saved me some money.
I have used this information twice. I got an 80 in a 55 reduced to a non-mover and a 90 in a 55 reduced to 25 over and 6 months supervision. The tickets were in different states that don't communicate so I didnt have the multiple ticket issue. At any rate, I learned a shitload from this book even though I think they are full of shit with the "win" word... "go to court...and get your charge reduced" is more accurate.
There is a lot of information about all aspects of the process. I'd have to agree with Rook though, if it was me looking at losing my license i'd get an attorney.

40 bucks a whack isnt bad!! Rook and I are talking about a trip before the season ends... Heck Montana here we come!!
