how to change vortec rearsets to gp shift
04/30/13 8:39 PM

i have finally managed to change my rear-sets to gp shift with out interfering with side stand or having to modify too much i have tested and seems to work well just takes a little bit of getting use too there is a couple of small spacers between the rose joint and the linkage arm to provide a little bit more clearanceyou need too get the dremmel out and remove a small part of the bottom fairing to provide clearance

I see you got some carbon fiber there. Where did you find that and how well did it fit? I have been contemplating switching out the lower cowlings with carbon fiber.

www.carbonworks.co.nz it is a local place here in nz he imports the pieces but not sure were from as it takes about 6 weeks to get them, they don't fit as nice as oem but are still ok and look good will be a little bit of weight savings as there is no heat insulation on them , they are also not true carbon as the carbon fibre is only a layer on the outside and a layer of GRP (Glass reinforced plastic)on the inside but in reality you would only notice if you were after every little gram

I always thought the main problem was the side stand. Looks like the Z-AFM QS just clears it because the sensor is situated above the shift rod. Wouldn't work with my HM shifter. I'd need to cut and weld the side stand sring catches on the back of the stand like Suzi does. Very nice though. Someone brought to my attention that GP shifting is not just faster but a lot more "normal" of a movement when in a tuck. I'd like to convert over some day.

the bazzaz shiftrs are quite narrow so does give a little bit more clearance , i now have to order another sensor as he bazzaz ones are specific to either standard or gp shift , i have had problems with missing gears with the quick shifter in standard configuration but hope fully this will help when i replace the switch

It may actually be better to have specific sensors for standard and GP shift. I can select o with my HM but the Bazzaz has more things to program than the HM. I especially like the fact that you can choose different kill times for different gears. I really don't use my quickshifter at high rpm first to second gear. Seems too stressful with acceleration that hard.
