These wrecks do suck. There is something about this year (2014). Here in Connecticut, there have been alot of bike accidents. I mean alot. Last week alone there were 2 deaths. Not sure why, but this is a bad year for all motorcycle riders. I too wiped out after being cut off real hard.

Anyone here want to go for a nice 50 mph drive with the Vicman?'Bout the SAFEST speed one can go and still have time to react perfectlyLOL!!!
I'm pushing it...perhaps 35,or 40 would be better;)
BTW Vic...how's that 'crossing into your lane scenario' goin?No comment?C'mon Mr Safety Skills expert...anything at all?
Think his safety skills woulda averted THIS?You have less than a second to react...ooops!Too late...the bike's already lost control...as have you.
Maybe he should hit that rewind button to his life and think it through BEFORE this happens...whattaya think?CLEARLY rider error...yes?
The other guy lowsided(lucky for him)cause he slammed on his rear brake....had that been a sportbike..methinks he'd have highsided...ask me how I know;)
"Not sure why the guy behind fell... should've definitely swerved out of the way instead of braking"...ANOTHER ONE...OMG!!!!..geez...how many of you guys are OUT there?LOL!!!Do this,do that....easy to sit back and judge.

@Bean: I hadn't seen that vid of the vaporizing last moment threats. Very sobering and instructive for both new and older ("experienced") riders who may be in need of a reminder of the limitations inherent in the pursuit of the pastime due to the cruelty and immutability of the laws of physics.

Thanks for posting that. I will share it with fellow riders.

Nice to know you only care about yourself and your insurance rates, dick.
16k miles in 1 year and I finally made a rookie mistake and had less than one second to correct or prepare to crash. I chose to prepare to crash. Hind sight, I should have just threw it back into the turn and made it stick, or drag the rear break and hold the throttle. Oh well, lesson learned.
Id like to see what you would do in that position. If you wanna blame a few of them on higher speeds on unknown roads, thats fine.

Hey just an aside here, we are all entitled to our opinions.
Stating that all the accidents reported here on the forum are due to cagers is not an opinion, and it is not something you are entitled to.
Grow up.
As far as your little scenario, I'd say if you've been riding it for that long and know it and all the bullshit you say, then you should be aware that vehicles routinely cross over lanes and that's something you'd better always be ready for. If you don't like that answer...
Grow up.
All accidents are preventable. Even something as stupid as going down a state road with cross roads, someone runs a stop sign and pulls out right in front of you with no warning and you're doing 65. This could be prevented by awareness that these situations occur and that you'd better be ready and paying extra attention. As the motorcyclist, if you feel the need to slow down to 5mph to prevent an accident that's what you'd better do. It might just save your life. If you don't like that answer..
GROW UP.

Seems like you have some guilt about your accidents. I don't know why. It happens, learn from it whatever possible, and move on. No need to hate me because I haven't had an accident at this point. I get the impression at this point you've built a small alter and offering sacrifices to whatever motorcycling gods for me to have an accident just so you can be like "I told you so VIC."
So you've had a motorcycle accident (or more). So start your record now. If it's been 5000 miles since your last accident, be proud that it's been 5000 miles. Or if it's been 2000, or 30,000. Be proud of that. I've known lots of riders that didn't make it 5000 miles without having an accident. Make it your goal to never have another accident, in any vehicle, ever again. If you don't care about having accidents, don't worry about it.

I've been riding for 34 years, and I still haven't wrecked yet. The worst I've had is a bike fall over. Does that make me a better rider than anyone else? No! That'd be a stupid and dangerous assumption to make. It'll happen one day. That's a certainty. Why do I wear all the protective gear if I'm THAT good? Because I'm not. Nowhere near it. The more prepared and practiced you are though, the less likely it's going to happen, but it still can. Call it fate, karma, luck, my number just hasn't come up yet. Maybe that mentality helps. I'm always watching and waiting ,and normally ready for the stupid shit that happens, but that doesn't mean that one day, all the practice and readiness is not going to be enough. Shit will just happen.
This year does have a particularly bad vibe to it though. Please guys, don't tempt fate, try to control it. Look ahead, relax, and GO NUTS.

I had a few cocktails when I started this thread. If I offended anyone, I'm sorry.
I didn't want to start a shitstorm.
I'm headed to Arkansas in about a week to roll hard with some like minded speed freaks. I go a couple of times a year, and it usually ends up with someone wrecking. I'll try my best to have fun, without incident.
As always.
If anyone can join in, Let me know. The more the merrier. It's the first weekend in October.
Harrison.

My mate is under scoring himself he can ride pretty hard but he is wise enough to not hopefully bring shit luck on himself! To quote my Dad RIP 1985! after the first Grand Prix just happened here in SA He said to my mum don,t worry Rita we will go next year! he had a massive hear attack the next day!
all the protective gear if I'm THAT good? Because I'm not. Nowhere near it.

You know all this babble about stats, riding safe and calculable odds is pretty dam a waste of time amongst all these hooligan psychos (including me) I call my brothers!
Depends are not undergarments and if I die, it shall be holding my right throttle hand wide open with an evil fucking grin!
But I still would not proclaim that I will never go down. Prefer to do that when I don't wake up with a kick stand and the kids hate me. Lol

That's exactly my point Wolf. All the stats and skills (or egos) aren't worth the paper/screen they're written on when it's time for shit to happen. When it's time, it'll just happen. You just deal with it as best as you can at the time.

One thing we all need, regardless of what our experiences or opinions are relating to this thread, is a bit of good fortune.
Years ago when I was pretty new to the riding game, i was on a VFR800 following some very experienced boys down Tasmania's west coast on perfect dry roads when I missed a very straight forward left hand corner at speed while foolishly trying to keep up.
I crossed the centerline, ran wide to the wrong side of the road on a relatively blind corner, hit the gravel on the far side and washed out into a ditch that was covered in thick bushes.
Had there been a car or truck coming the other way, I would not be writing this. If it happened to be a motorbike instead I probably would have killed us both. If there were trees, poles, solid wire fencing, gaurd rails or anything similar in my way past that gravel I don't think I would have made it through the incident.
I'm not proud to tell the story, but luck was on my side that day and it's the only reason I was able to learn the greatest lesson(s) I have learnt on a motorbike.
Unfortunately some people are just not as fortunate as I was.
Since that incident so long ago there have been countless trips away where the riding has been very "spirited" and I'm fortunate that I have made decisions relative to my riding skills and experience that have and hopefully will continue to play a huge part in keeping safe.
But i am not too proud to acknowledge that luck played a massive part in the rider I am today and I certainly will never ever take it for granted.
So whether you have come off your bike or not, whether you have years of experienced or are new to the game, whether you ride hard or just commute, or whether you beleive it's completely in your own hands or not as to whether you take a spill or remain upright, I wish each and every one of you guys that little bit of extra luck that could make all the difference in the world when it counts.
Ride hard and stay safe...
