Flash or PCV or both?
10/04/16 8:28 PM

Guys, following on from the other thread I just started (fuel pressure problem), I bought a package for my zx14 consisting of the following:

Muzzy 4 into 1 system
PCV with harness
Schnitz flashed ecu
Pc quick shifter

While getting service work done I got the shop to fit my exhaust and electronics but the bike wont start with the Schnitz ecu in (immobilizer wont allow power to fuel system). So part of the appeal of the package is it came off an early 14 like mine so I was hoping the tune would be good but if I cant use the Schnitz then do I flash my ecu and forget the PCV? As my flies are still in do I need to flash the ecu to alter the opening rate (and alter ignition timing while I am there)? Do I then keep the PCV but zero the maps so the qs will still work? What is the best way to optimise my package? I asked at one local dyno shop and they said they would flash the exu and tune via PCV, to me it seems that if your flashing the exu then why not tune it there and leave the pcv out of it (why tune two computers)?

What do you guys think?

By the way, the bike is my daily rider and has 103,000kms on it so Im not expecting to win any dyno contests, I just want to free up the midrange I have read about (and top end boost wont hurt). I will be taking it to the drags when its all sorted.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

:)

Romans - if I send you the Schintz can you flash it and unlock the immobiliser? Or would you prefer to flash my own ecu?

:)

Pondering the idea of doing this to my bike.

Flash alone should be just fine as long as the map was made close to your altitude. PCV with Wideband2 will help but IMHO, not enough to notice unless you ride at a significantly different altitude than the flashed map. It also requires a good deal of practice and learning if you want to self tune. And it is dangerous. And expensive to buy the equipment. Unless you're racing or just intrigued with self tuning or you plan to run boost, I don't think it will make a big enough difference to bother. My map was made about 500-600 feet lower in elevation. Autotune made no change in performance that I could feel. perhaps a bit less decel pop----maybe?? The map was already about as good as it gets.
