Hello from South Africa
10/03/11 4:09 AM

Well, I am from South Africa and on occasion i have read this forum. It all started when i purchased a brand new black 2007 zx14 in 2008. One of the left over models, so i got it at a good price. I did a lot off searching on this and other zx14 forums. So i knew about the "cracking" frames etc of the early models, but i also knew what a beautiful bike the zx14 was and i just had to have one.
At that stage i was riding a 1983 GPZ 900, but she had too make way for something new, and all i wanted was a black zx14.
In South Africa we are very very fortunate that we have some of the best roads for bike riding. The condition of our roads is mostly good and then we also have the good fortune of being able to ride the whole year. As a matter of fact the best time for us is during winter. We also don't have the stringent noise level and pollution level laws. Most off the time we get away with riding without number plates. We do have ONE disadvantage; CRIME....
So to cut this long introduction short, My black zx14 was stolen in April 2010. No insurance so no new bike.
BUT I HAVE JUST COME BACK FROM THE LOCAL KAWASAKI DEALER AND IT SEEMS THAT I MAY HAVE A 2011 ZX14 IN THE DRIVEWAY BEFORE LONG. Or i must wait for the 2012. Don't think i can wait as it has been a year and a half without riding...

Saz!

Black is the way to go. I think you should wait though! It's only 7 days until the release, though I'm not sure when you guys will get in South Africa! At least you'll be able to see what the new 14 looks like and if you don't like it I'm sure you will be able to find a good deal on a 2011. Whatever you decide to do enjoy!

Sorry to hear about your bike Saz! They should string up bike thieves like they used to do horse thieves! But next time, get some insurance! I know it's a pain and the costs are high, but in the event of a theft of a crash, you'll be glad you had it! Hope you find your new ride soon - but as dragking says, since the 2012 bike's intro is just around the corner, I say wait to see what how it looks, performs and costs then make your decision! Not sure about your neck of the woods, but there are plenty of deals to be had on holdovers and used 14's! jm2c...

Thanx for the welcome, i wont make the same mistake again. Learned the hard way. I started my own little company at the end of 2009 and had to cut down on expenditure. Unfortunately insurance was the first thing to go.

The 2011zx14 costs 140,000.00 Rand in South Africa. That would be about 16,800.00 us dollars. If the 2012 zx14 is a zx15 with supercharger (we will have to wait until next week to see) i reckon they will bump the price up. If the ad is anything to go by then i don't think i would want one. It looks like a 1000 from the front. The whole idea of having a 14 is that it must stand out. If a busa rider sees me coming up behind him he must immediately know what he is up against.
There is a 2011 available with 300 kilometers on the clock. The local dealer reckons it will go for around 115,000.00 rand ( about 13,800.00 dollars ). The only problem is that it is the green and black model. Could have it re-sprayed and still have some change left.
I guess the sensible thing to do is wait a week or two. It is just damn difficult to wait if you haven't had a bike for a year and a half.
How does the converted Rand - Dollar price that we pay compare to what you pay in Dollars?

I paid $12705 for mine in Apr 2010, OTD (including Tax,title, license, and Extended warranty). Thought it was a pretty good deal considering sticker at the time was $13399!

Hi bigwilliezx
Your ride looks awesome, the black and silver really go together well. Is it a custom spray job? I have read a lot about the Brock's exhausts on various forums, they look mean. How do they sound? I haven't seen any Brock's on bikes in SA. Guess there isn't a importer for them here. I modified the stock canisters on my stolen zx14. They looked and sounded damn good. Will post a picture once i figured out how.

RE: Hello from South Africa

Thanks guys!

SAZ - the color is just the regular 2010 SE scheme, might look like it's a little different because of the wheels...the Brock's CT Duals sound great actually! They scream, especially above 6k and I love the way they sound when they are running down from speed! Not to mention that you can hold the entire assembled system in the palm of one hand! Don't know if they ship overseas though... They are a bit pricey though, so I don't know what they would end up costing with shipping to SA.

Blue - I like the Brock's because they allow me to keep the stock pegs - my little girl loves to ride with me (won't take her on the highway though). So I really loved it that the brocks allowed them to remain as is so I can ride 2up. My daughter has mentioned getting her own bike, so I think that she is hooked! I'll do my best to teach her the right way, if I can talk to wife to letting her get one! My seat is a Corbin and although it started off a little stiff, as advertised it has softened up over the past 500 mi and now it's all day comfortable! Lovin' it. Just wish I got to ride more than I do, but not much time from being in A'stan.

Hi bean07, I know this is not the forum for it but it's regarding a certain game that is going to be played on Sunday. At least it is a game that we can beat our American friends in. Me thinks the Ausie's are going to need all the luck you can get. So good luck from S.A.
Ps. Even with the new bike launch on Monday i have decided to look for a low km 09 or 10 model. Just got back from the bank for the loan. Want to have cash in hand so i can make a deal.

Hi to all,
Took the wife to Kawasaki on Friday. She insists that i get a 2011 zx14. She loves riding with me and her argument is that she wouldn't feel comfy on the back at very high speeds with a second hand bike. How can i argue against that logic. So now i am waiting for the prices to drop on the 2011. And before somebody comes down on me for doing very high speeds with my lady as pillion, they don't know my wife. She loves the speed and most times i don't ride fast enough to her liking.

lool try to negotiate a test ride with an older model and take her with you. Find a nice straight and tell her to hold on and go wide open throttle if that doesn't do it nothing will.

Hi to all,

Seems from my previous post that i have managed to upload a photo of my stolen zx14. The bike was stolen 2 weeks after the date shown on the photo. As you can see on the photo i had cut off 160mm from the stock pipes and modified the outlet by the rear capping. She really had a lovely deep sound.

Regarding the new bike, Kawasaki in South Africa have cut the price on the 2011 by about $1200.00. I could probably get a bit more out of them with cash in hand. Waiting for the loan to register.

As you can see, the wife loves riding with.

Nice pics Sazx14! Again, sorry you lost your bird to a thief!!! Whatever you replace your old ride with, I know you would be happy with!!! You already know how the current bike is, and from all accounts, the new bird is even better in a lot of ways - there should be some reports on it shortly, since several members have already committed to getting on the 2012 ZX-14R. I am getting one myself, but am waiting on those reports and saving cach in the meantime. I will be able to make my own comparisons, since I am keeping my 2010 bike and just parking the new one along side it in my garage... can't wait!

Hi to everyone,

So the day has finally come, Christmas has arrived early in South Africa this year.
Went for a sneak preview on the 2012 two weeks ago and she is beautiful. But i opted for for a brand new black 2010 spec ZX14 that they had standing on the floor. Got it at a very good price too.

The 2012 will only be available in SA at the end of January and they don"t know as yet what the asking price will be (anyway i couldn't wait any longer).

Now i have got to get the rear mudguard off and finish the mods to the 2007 stock pipes that i had kept from my stolen 2007 and obviously break in the new baby.

Some questions.
1) The general consensus on this forum seems to be that the it is not necessary to remove the flies as there doesn't seem to be any gain on the 2010 spec.
2) I also had a bit of a noisy timing chain with my 2007. Has this been sorted on the 2010 spec? Or should i do mods? And if so, is it the best option to install the ZX12 tension-er?
I only have 100km on the clock now and would it be wise to wait till after the "break in" before i do the timing chain mod?

Thank you,

Here are some pics of my new baby.
