Not that I ever thought it would hurt o-rings, but this is an interesting test ....

I believe Hub performed that experiment a long time ago and concluded the same thing. WD-40 does't do a thing to your o-rings. I still remember the black rubber whiskers sticking out of my chain and stuck on the rear wheel. I'm sticking with kerosene. Maybe I'll try WD-40 again when it gets close to time to change the chain again.

Hmph. If you don't have a subscription then you don't get past the first page.

Typical pre-dater race team performance: they get 100 yards down the straight after the lights go out and the chain falls off the scooter.

*facepalm*

Before your criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you do criticize them, you're a mile away and have their shoes.

I've never heard of WD-40 causing problems with O-rings. I think the problem with WD-40 is people beleiving it's a cleaner AND lube, which it's lubing ability is not adequate for chains. Diesels the big thing that comes up that is known to damage o-rings. I don't know this is true first hand, but I'm fairly sure people-in-the-know warn against diesel as a cleaner.

I watched the vid I was disappointed they didn't test diesel.

I used wd40 for a short while when I first had my 07 zx14.What I started noticing was the rings were breaking, sticking out of the rollers. In all fairness though...this COULD have been the result of not lubing the chain frequently enough.WD can give an illusion of 'lubing' after it's applied.Which we know it doesn't lube chains well.

I stopped using it pretty quickly once I saw this happening(to two chains).I wasn't gonna continue to possibly be damaging the rings.I changed up to using kerosine, wiping and drying first, then adding Maxima Chain Wax.This has worked very well now since 07.The chain has to be fully dry(from residual kerosine)before adding a lube to it.The Chain Wax was the BEST for not flinging off...it has to sit for around 30 minutes or so first however.I used a hair dryer to heat and evaporate any kerosine left in there(after wiping it down a few times)...which also helps the Chain Wax to penetrate the rollers/rings.

I also used thick grease on the chain a one time.Squeezing it in each link. Then wiping off the excess. This was a MESS I have to say.The rim and sidewall were totally covered after a few minutes of riding. Not good if you're hitting any curves.I ditched that process after one ride.

I totally stepped up my cleaning/lubing intervals when I got my 2012...and my 2013.This was a big factor for my chains.400 mile intervals just aren't soon enough here.
