Pics of No Cut Frame Sliders?
06/26/11 5:37 AM

All-

First things first, I want to make sure my new ZX is protected just in case. I have always put LP frame sliders on my bikes, but I was hoping maybe some of you have pics of your no cuts installed on your 14s? Just want to make sure I choose wisely.

Thanks guys-

Red

Alternative, militant-moto barrier bars or race railz.

You can still find race railz sometimes, but the company which made them is out of business.

Race rails look to be a very nice choice but be careful. I have heard that owners have a hard time getting them to fit properly.

Only sliders I would put on the 14 would be those that have a proven reputation for sliding a 14 and not busting the frame where the sliders connect.

I did some checking, and as I posted above, PowerStuntWorx is out of business, and nobody will sell Race Railz anymore. I checked eBay and they have a set for another bike, not the ZX14.

I think this is something I'm going to have to talk to my machinist and nephew about. I'm pretty sure we can make something just as good if not better. I'll have my machinist cut the metal, and my nephew can weld it, and then I can get it powder coated.

Will have to shop around for sliders to find something we can easily use for the front and rear protrusions.

I found, on eBay, Lightning ZX14 Race Rails Protection ..... someone else is now making race railz under a different name.

Once I get them, I'll see how they mount, and then have my machinist and welder nephew modify, if necessary.

Re: Barrier Bars

58 Cycle only has chrome, KneeDraggers has black also. A bit more pricey, but I'll pay it to get black. They look pretty well made.

The barrier bars were a better fit than the race railz.

This is why I love this forum! You post something, one or two people add important information, and you get saved from making a mistake (if you listen).

Heh.

Update - Kneedraggers had the item drop shipped to me, only took 1 day for it to be shipped. Awesome service!

Looks the same to me. That is just a generic pic by 58cycle, but same design as racer railz I have. Not a generic pic of my bike.

I've seen many of the single bolt style available.

A buddy put a set on, dropped the bike, and snapped the aluminum tab off the front of the head where it attached.

That's not a slider, that's a snapper.

I put a set of GSG-Moto sliders on. There's a braket that bolts to the frame and the block, the slider then bolts to the bracket.

Hate to admit it, but I dropped the bike in the garage, but the sliders did their job. A little scuff on the lwer fairing, nothing else.

So for me, they were worth it.

The big draw of Race Railz was they stood up to low speed stuff really well. Without damaging the frame.

But PowerStuntWorx went out of business. The Lightning and Barrier Bars are knock offs, and work as well as the old Railz work.

When my Barrier Bars get here, I'll have my machinist make the mount plates cover more frame, and make the mounts stronger with gussets as required. Then, if I get unlucky, the bars will do their job. Even in a low speed slide.

Thanks again all. Sportsman, I think I will have to check those Moto sliders out. I really don't want rails, as soon as the Police see those on the bike they are going to assume I am stunting it, and they would stand out pretty loud against the red paint . The less conspicuous the better.

I'm not sure the cops would even know what a stunt bike looks like, or care.

Put it this way, mine looks and sounds stupid fast. Because it is. When I rode back from the dealer Saturday after having a major service done, I had a cop roll down his window and pull a U turn and follow me for about 5 blocks.

Had to keep the speed and rpm down and go 25ish for him. Of course, if he had stopped me, I would have made it worse by chewing him out for letting straight pipe Harleys alone but stopping me. He didn't stop me.

Having slide bars on wouldn't have changed that scene one bit.

Someone looking at the bars who doesn't really know bikes, wouldn't even notice them.

For me, my Shogun Frame Sliders did a great job when I went down last month. The damage was very minimal. The sliders did there job very well!

There used to be youtube video of a guy low siding a Honda (or something) at low speed, on purpose, with Race Railz on it, and the only thing that got hurt was the Race Railz got road rash.

I think the Shoguns and other good slider nubs are pretty good for a tip over, but a slide on rough pavement... not so sure.

I just installed my GSG Sliders today. It took all of 6 weeks to come in. While I was disappointed with that at first, along with taking many panels off of the bike, the design and fitment of the parts are top notch.

I really like how the brackets tie together the engine mounts to another fixed point on the frame. The sliders then bolts to the bracket. Lots of time invested but then again, I cleaned everything along the way too.
