Ive heard a number of stories of people having bikes fall over if a strap breaks from only using 2...ive always used 4 to make sure its safely secured...BUT there could be an instance of 2 straps breaking on the same side i guess...lol

5 straps. I run 2 at the bars/lower forks with the soft straps. 2 at the back. 1 wrapped at the front wheel so it does not flop over on the fork stop. say the straps stretch loose. That's the trick... make the front wheel stationary so it can't walk.

I run 8 straps. I double up each corner just in case one decides to fail. Overkill maybe but it doesn’t hurt to have the peace of mind.

About 10! I have 4 main, good strong straps: 1 to each canyon cage across the grips and 1 to each passenger peg / exhaust hanger bracket, all 4 pulling forward and downward, with the front wheel in a chock. Then, since I have a bin of various bungees I add several of them to each side of the bike ... kinda until I'm tired of applying and/or the bike no longer moves! My goal is to make it so that if any strap breaks, although the bike may move a little it won't fall over. I hope I'll notice its movement in my mirror and be able to stop to re-secure it before something else fails.

I'm planning on getting Pit Bull trailer restraints. Maybe one for each bike.
They cost quite a bit more than straps but there's no way the bike will tip over.
They look awful darned cool too.

I've hauled a lot of bikes through the years. I use 4 straps, 2 in front pulling to front and side, 2 in rear pulling rearward and to the sides. Buddy has a large Harley and did use 4 in the front for that one. Use double loop strap wraps at all four mounts for a tighter grip on the bike and less chaffing to the motorcycle. Make sure you eliminate all excess straps flapping in the wind, can do a lot of damage by the time you get to your destination.
Does anyone know if it harms the fork seals having the front fork compressed for an extended period of time?

Another heavier ratchet down on the trailer and the end with just the hook on the motorcycle end.

I use "3" straps.
I don't like compressing my suspension.
I use the Cycle Cynch II (like Canyon Dancers) on the front.
Only snug enough to balance/pull bike forward.
Then I use the rubber keepers(below) on the tie down hooks so the hooks
don't come undone if you hit a bump.
For the rear I use a single heavy duty ratchet strap.
Secure one end, pass through rim and around tire and secure end, ratchet down
good and tight.

5 usually, one on each clip-on, one on each passenger peg bracket, and one going over the passenger seat for a extra piece of mind.

I use 2 or 3 straps. One custom strap on the rear and 1 or 2 on the front. The front strap is not needed to hold the bike sturdy but who knows if you are on a rough road or in an emergency maneuver. Prefer 2 on the front axle as not to mark the paint on the rims. never had a problem. No picture of my 14R but here are some of my 12R and a friends.

2 for short hauls
4 for long distance
I slways use a front wheel chock
Loop soft ties make tying down easier and make scuffs and damage less likely.
