Does anyone here have, or know someone who does, any experience with the
spiegler handlebar conversion kit for our bike? The bars look like they would be very comfortable.

Best mod I have made to my bike! Totally transformed the riding experience for me. No more neck or wrist pain. If anything, the bike handles better with speigler bars. I got the tour bar. It's about 2 inches higher than the one that comes in the kit. Absolutely love it. Ops checked good to 150 plus....

At full lock bars barely touch fairing just below windshield. Not a problem at all. And these bars can be rotated in the clamps if need be. I higbly recommend this setup. I'm 56, 6ft3 and 280lbs.I was seriously considering other styles of bike (Concours 14) until I installed the spiegler bars. I didn't want to give up the top end power , That and the 14 is long paid for. My 2¢....Go ahead, you won't regret it.

Had an ABM conversion kit installed by a local motorcycle mechanic . Looks very similar to the Spiegler kit . Took him 4.5 hours to do it , so I'm glad I didn't tackle it myself . For me well worth the cost as it saves my back and wrists. Yes it does minimally touch the fairing when you turn lock to lock . No big deal really but I think I'll have the fairing trimmed by a local fairing manufacturer .

Fat old guys just do not bend over ride to well
I'm 50 and commute 110 miles per day on an old Ducati 748... if you think a stock ZX14 is uncomfortable, try a 748. It makes the ZX14 feel like a touring bike.

Gday bill, I Cannot recommend enuf, the ABM bars / Laminar lip screen combo on my 14, my back isn't the best anymore but I can ride all day long in comfort again now.I've customised the position of the screen, zero turbulence. Spot on.

Thanks for the photo's and information banknyank. You have a nice looking motorcycle if I do say so myself ( same color as mine ha! ). She looks very comfortable! At this point, all I have for comfort are heli bar risers. I have a set of Knight designs pegs on the way. I am really considering a set of bars like you have.

Bill, I initially had risers too but decided On the ABM kit, when I first put them on I was a little dissapointed with the increased wind on the upper body / head, wasn't good. Did some research & read that the bigger touring screens caused a fair bit of turbulent air behind them too so I opted for the laminar lip, it was so much better than the standard screen, the gap between the 2 screens smoothes out the airflow massively, but now I've moved it towards me around 3" or so & up a bit too it's as good as I could want.
The added bonus is wider bars = more leverage for counter steering.

I had Heli risers for a few years on my '06 14.I have spiegler kit installed for about a year now. Night and day difference. Spiegler is expensive, no doubt. Worth every penny! I would never go back to risers. Transformed my bike in a very good way. My 2¢.Worth what you paid for it.

If you are handy with tools, try Convertibars. A lot more adjustability.
My present setup is 2-1" Gen-mar spacers per side. That got me about 3.5" higher bars and 1" back. I had to rotate the throttle cables and release the front brake hose pinned to the tripe tree. This setup just touches underneath the fairing.
Now I'm doing the Convertibars. Vertical bar is 8" tall, but can be lowered by cutting. The Fork clamp misses the plastic cover over the fuel tank. I'm re-routing the hoses and electrical cables in front of the Fork Tubes. I may order another set of vertical bars and shortened them to 4" which is the location of my Gen-mar setup for short trips and around town. The Clamp puts the handlebar about 1.5" closer to me. Use www.cycle-ergo.com to see your setup.
I have a longer brake hose, the clutch hose will be re-routed.
The deciding factor will be the electrical cables, I'm not splicing any wires.
I'm 65, 5'10", 200lb.-bad back, bad wrists, bad neck, bad left Knee. All those early injures have come home to roost!

"The deciding factor will be the electrical cables, I'm not splicing any wires."
The factory wires are loomed together and are run forward along and clipped under the ducts.
It's easy enough to free them up and doing so allows free lock to lock movement.

Sorry, not using Convertibars...
I have a LSL kit with different bars.
The bars are 4" or 5" taller than the one's that come in the kit, along with more pull back.
After moving the wiring as I described, I had plenty of room.
I can't say for sure it will accommodate 8" of rise but I can say there is a lot more available.

I untangled the hoses and cables, but 8" rise is too tall no matter what I do to the cables. When I installed my Clutch assembly it struck the windshield. I'm going to cut off 2" of the vertical post and see if the lever fits into the Fairing pocket and the electrical cables will not be so tight. If I need more length in the electrical cables I will order Concours parts.
LSL setup you have to remove the Ignition switch.

I cut off 2" using a Pipe Tube cutting wheel. The brake lever fits inside the fairing pocket. My clutch hose and all electrical cables fit and are not tight turning the wheel stop-to-stop. I'm 6" higher than stock and the pullback is another 3.5". The grips are so much higher, it is hard to imagine. I put the stock handlebar on for comparison. Now to add the longer Brake line and do the Throttle side.
Convertibars are made in the USA you don't have to remove the Ignition switch and the handlebar has an adjustable angle.

I didn't have to touch my ignition switch at all to fit the ABM kit.
I had the Heli risers installed previously, compared to them the new set up is :- 3" closer in reach & nearly 4" higher, compared to the Heli risers, the kit comes with the extended brake hose which is the only thing that needs replacing, you will need another screen as well tho, due to now sitting in the breeze / hurricane ?
Each to their own. Johnno.

I addressed the higher windshield for last year's tour. I replaced the stock shield with ZG Touring shield, I used 3M pinlock (Velcro) 250 pins per inch tape. Laminar Lip uses 3M 400 pins per inch tape, but I cannot find it. I added 6-1" spots to ZG shield and mounted the stock shield on top-raised 5" higher. This new cocoon gave me a place to hide in a rain storm. Now I want to widen the shield to keep the Bugs off my shoulders.
It looks ugly, but after a trip I just remove it.

LSL is the way to go for comfort period. I am sure these others work to buy for me it was remarkable in the difference.
This only shows the increase from the ground but I seem to recall 5" up and 5" back. Good luck in your search.
