I want to try this mod to reduce backfiring on decel. Is anyone familiar with how this procedure is done and does it work?

I pulled the hose from the bottom of the air box, stuck a wooden dowel in it, and stuck it back in the air box.
That got rid of 98% of my backfiring! Didn't affect the performance at all.
I didn't see the need to remove all the piping like some guys do. It just makes the engine a little easier to work on.
Haven't noticed any ill effects from this method either.

Thanks fellas. I think just plugging the hose will work for now. No need to get fancy.
I like the idea mentioned on the bikeland link of connecting the clean air system down to the crank case, though. I suppose the suction is supposed to help draw the oil back and this adds up to +2 hp???

Noticed burning 93 octane instead of 87 reduces the backfire.
Where does the suction in the clean air system come from? Is it the flow of the exhaust that creates the vacuum?
