Motul 300V
12/24/14 2:53 AM

Just had a service done on my 07 and requested they use motul 300v oil in my bike after reading a little about it here and getting rave reviews from some of my riding buddies.
I generally try to use good quality options on my bike and so thought I'd give it a try.

Well, the gearbox feels so much better but also had an Evo shift star fitted as well so I have no reference on how much if any difference the 300V has made feel wise.
I understand it is a level above for engine and gearbox protection.

One thing is for certain. They don't give it away! Bloody expensive...

Any opinions on this oil?

One, two, three, four,

Yannih declares an oil war!

I understand it is a level above for engine and gearbox protection.

Expand please: what makes Motul better than another oil that is API SM rated?

Ha ha Hagrid, Im a very simple man that relies on people way smarter than myself to advise me on matters I know very little about.

And unlike my wife, I try to consider all advise given to me.
I mean i even listen to you lot on this forum!

"What makes Motul better?"

I was told by a number of people who are far more knowledgable and experienced than I am that 300V is the oil to use. I have also used the basic premise that if it is more expensive it is generally of higher quality.
Not the most sound theory but no doubt those on this forum will set me straight on that...

And if I have created any kind of war here, then my work here is done!

I don't know if Motul is "better" than other oils of similar makeup, they do use the more
expensive ester stocks in the 300V, but so do many other makers ....

Esters have been around for 60 years, I got the Motul 7100 because I had gift cards and I
got a good price on it, I have a big jug of 300V I'm going to use next just to see if
it is any differnt, also have a jug of good old Mobil one synthetic car oil to try after
that ...

One thing I like about Motul, is it comes in liters, not quarts, 4 liters is enough for my
bike (four bottles) but 4 Quarts, usually is not ....

Here is Motuls supposed reasons for using their brand if you are so inclined to read :

Now THAT was a good read...I KNEW my choice for Motul was the right one...just didn't really know WHY...except Kawasaki puts it in there from the factory and my shifting is SWEET.;)

I used Valvoline dino first oil change for 3400 miles. Then Mobil 1 Racing now for 760 miles (current). Lot of people report very smooth shifting on M1. I didn't really notice a difference in overall shifting, as I don't really find running up and down the gears too bothersome anyway. For me the main thing I'd like to lessen is the N>1 clunk. Not that it's a big deal, apparently 650Rs and N/Z1000s have a clunk too, but the other supersports don't (6R/10R). That's just what I've read people saying.

Maybe I'll give motul 300v a try. I nearly went with it instead of M1 anyway but got a deal on the M1 at the time.

I put motul 300v in my '06 after the 15K valve adjust process. Shifted much smoother than the M1 I replaced and the bike never saw more than three temp bars with the 300V even on a 95 deg day at the track. I just finished the 1K break in on my new BBW '14 14R (changed the new stuff at 500 also) and switched to 300V, I do not notice a difference in the shifting from the Kawi 10W-40 dino and motul 300v after the oil change. So maybe, a new 14R trani needs to break in more before the oil makes any noticeable difference in the shift feel?? IDK

Never tried Motul products, always used Shell, Valvoline, or Mobil, after reading think I might give it a try!

I think you guys will be really pleased with the 300V.
Way better than the 7100 IMO.

I'd like to see some oil analysis results of 300V with say 5000 miles of spirited 14R riding on it?

I use to send my boat engine oil to this place, simple process and I know a lot of the 911 guys uses it also

www.blackstone-labs.com/

Didn't want to have a major engine failure 60 miles offshore TJ chasing tuna.

Data on metallic wear % is actually a little bit more informative than "it works for me" ... "no problems so far" or my favorite "I use 20W-50 Astro Glide and it works great!'

Maybe when I hit 5K I'll send it off just for the hell of it?

Hi cruderudy,
That would be brilliant if you could do that!
Im a massive fan of 300V however I have no concrete data to back this up.
So maybe you will be able to provide some solid information about whats good or not with this oil and advise what the real deal is.
If you go ahead please share the results.

7100 and 300V are both excellent oils.
