Just wondering how long anodized aluminum will hold up. I was going to clear coat my anodized sprocket to preserve the finish but after trying it, I've decided the gloss detracts from the color effect of the anodized surface uncoated It's hard to tell in pics unless you have a great monitor but I'll post these to see if you can tell what i mean.

Nobody cares about anodized surface protection.........? Oh well, suppose it is a bit obscure of a topic. At least if you are wndering about the durability of your anodized stuff, you mith think twice before applying a clearcoat.

Hey, if you do....comes off pretty easy with acetone even the next day. Acetone is some nasty stuff though. Use only in emergencies.

In the paintball world, our "guns" are often anodized. It stands up quite well. The real question is, how good a job did the coater do, and how good was the material used. It makes a difference.

That's what i was thinking, priv. I never really paid much attention to anodized stuff until now but I'm sure like everything else, we have various levels of quality. It will be interesting to see how it fares. I think it may be looking a little rough after a year because it i a spinning part and so low to the ground. Hope it holds up because it is very pretty.

Don't know much about the process... but done right, anodized stuff wears extremely well. It is, however, susceptible to sun fading. I've had some black parts turn purple and reds turns pink. Applying a little wax now and them seems to help.
