Something wrong!
04/21/12 12:07 PM

Hey guys new to this forum good to be here! On my way home form work 25 mile commute my bike started to run very badly on the highway. I went to past a car gave it throttle and its was hard to explain almost like a misfire or a hiccup! Then by my house theres a big hill it was bogging all the way up more throttle I gave the worst it was than it stalled on me! Pulled over turned the key off waited a few minutes started it up seems to be OK the rest of the way home. Bike only has 800 miles on it. Is it bad gas or something else?

Another thing you should check is the battery terminal bolts. Had there come loose on my 06 & 08. I put a lock washer under them now to stop vibrating loose.

I did check the battery everything is good there. Seems like a fuel issue but not sure. Hate to take it to the dealer if I dont have to! Do they have a diagnostic machine at dealers like car dealer have?

Did any warning lights come on? Yellow or red? Where did you last fill up on fuel?

This is a 14R?WHAT is your Ktrc set on?It will rest to "1" on the key cycle. It sounds to me as if you somehow had your KTRC set to like 3.That may be why it was hiccuping. It will do that if the KTRC kicks in for whatever reason(normally, wheel spin...which is easy to get with the 14R)You may not even realize your wheel is breaking loose. You stopped, turned the key off, then back on...and she was fine, yes?Default factory setting with KTRC...."1".

I thought something was wrong with mine at the very first few drives. In 1st...gassing her.She popped right up,then,I gassed her again...this time...she sputtered like no tomorrow(during the loft).I turned the KTRC 'off"....no more sputtering...but the rear wheel breaks loose very easily...and she'll pop right up if you're not paying attention with your throttle hand.

Does your bike have any power mods to it..i.e.,a Powercommander? That Metzler MAY be slipping some.Several other guys with the 14R have mentioned wheel slip with the Metzler.I haven't had any slippage with mine...some spin at times...hard on the gas...but otherwise...fine.

No lights came on! She just died on me. Got gas at bp. Always put in premium gas! Its weired more throttle worst it was until she stalled. I had a lot of bikes over the years never had this problem! Like on the highway ready to pass got on the gas it just cut out. Every time I throttle her it would do the some thing....scary!

Well...it sounds scary....how about when adding throttle,doing it less aggressively?What does THAT do?No lights...battery ground as was mentioned.I think.Hopefully.

This is an R with a whole new ballgame to it. OK, right out of the gate, one was the battery terminals, the other was last gas fill?

No, you pulled over, she bogged and stopped. You turn the key back on, she no longer makes a peep, right? Not gas, not battery. I'd say you might be a field monkey. A field fix kind of sitting duck. Though unofficially, your R did a funny thing electrically, I'd officially cover my ass, take a ride over to the dealer, have it written up, and you date it, so it is shown, there was what was written was more or less a phantom glitch somewhere?

Whether it be the cheap gas, or a factory fluff, it seems the solution is key off/key on... Get it home. And what time span is that? Take it to work again [a lot] so it does it again. Then I'd say you have a warranty problem.

Yup...dealer's the best thing here.Let them sort it out.

"got on the gas it just cut out"...sounds like the Ktrc to me...but that shouldn't affect the idling thing...running on mild throttle...What's your POWER MODE set on?

No mods done! Yes its 14r! But this is not normal ktrc is set at 1 with full power! Just barely made it up a hill then she stalled on me! Not a ktrc issue.

Okay...is it doing this in every gear? What's your idle doing?Once you get er started.Look down at the front Ktrc ring there...is that connector okay?Bolted on there and plugged in alright? And at the rear wheel...that sensor connected okay...bolted up and plugged in?

Just offering some 'maybe' suggestions here...I think the 'no lights or dash display' is the key here...something's interfering with your ignition or electrics from the battery. It sounds like a poor connection somewhere.Intermittent loss of ground or something.

Yes every gear it was doing it. Im thinking now electrical because when I stalled and turned the key off then on it seemed to be ok but wasn't far from home to really test it.

Well...just another thing you might check...turn your key on....look immediately at the lower right icons...both yellow....are they coming on and going off?(either before startup,or immediately after(like your oil lamp would).

Sounds like one of the KTRC electrical connections are not plugged in all the way. I had similar bogging when I installed the Quickshifter. The plug I left disconnected was on the right side of the bike next to the plug top coils, you will have to take off the tank fairing, pitchfork and loosen up the mid panel to access the plug. I am not positive if this is it but my bike was bogging really badly and didn't want to climb over 7K (roughly) with this unplugged. Hope this helps!

@pittzx14r: quote " Its raining here in Pittsburgh so i cant get out to ride".

You and i will have plenty of time for diagnostics: weather channel is predicting up to 6" of snow sunday night to monday morning.
I am less than pleased.
