Just bought this. Alpinestars GP Pro. Very happy with it. Full padding on chest (first for me) Very comfortable and plenty of pockets/storage. Snug fit.

I am leaning toward the Teknic Mercury.

Not too pricy and still pretty sharp designwise.

Goatskin, instead of real cowhide leather, though.

ItsPaul,

I love the look and style of that Alpine Stars Jaws, but they sure are proud of them!

Probably worth the $$$ though, as that some quality stuff. I have Alpine Stars gloves and love em.

I ended up getting at icon accelerant leather jacket.
I'm glad I went to a local bike store try and tried it on for size firstrather than take a chance on ordering online because I ended up wearing an XL and it fits perfectly

Didn't think I wore that big of a size

I think regular full price is something like $350 but I got it for $199 no tax

I ride all summer, in Tucson. Commute at 5 PM, in slow fwy traffic (5 miles of it), for 35 miles total one way. Been doing that for about 10 years.

I've done it every year wearing no pro. I get home soaked sweat, but with a grin. Some close calls with you know idiots.

What do you guys do when it get 105 out?

I've got a new setup to try this summer. It's a bit of a pain to get into, but I'm trying it:

1st layer: Wet Cooling vest. The modern kind, not a soaked T shirt.
2nd layer: Large Hole Mesh jacket with armor in correct spots. Holes size of mesh fishnet nylons. Yeah, it looks like a thin stocking, with armor.
3rd layer: Large Hole Mesh T Shirt. Think: Football jersey (bought at Cycle World, 10 bucks).

The jacket with armor is a commercial product, I dont remember the brand (I'll see if I can find the tag). It has cinch straps with velcro, that hold the armor in place, on the elbows and forearms. I bought it at my local off-road cycle shop.

I decided on a jersey over all of it because the mesh armor makes me look like someone from a Mad Max movie, not too appropriate for a senior guy leaving the office. (I know, what do I care, right?)

I looked for years to find a mesh jacket that I was willing to wear in 100+ temps, every summer day, in mid-day heat, but never saw one yet.

If you guys have seen it, I'll look at it.

Meb, I have always lusted over the Forcefield Pro line for the Southeast Texas heat. We don't see 105 that often but 98 with 80% to 90% humidity I'd the summertime norm here. I wonder if anyone has any experience with Forcefield?

"The Forcefield Pro Shirt is the ultimate all action shirt with high spec CE approved armour located at the elbows, shoulders and chest and now with a complete built in CE Level 2back protector.

Combining moulded Nitrex Evo® technical energy absorbing material with the all new M15 armour a specialised polymer from Nitrile rubber that has been optimised to achieve low weight, flexibility and Repeat Performance Technology (RPT) ensuring protection is given even after multiple impacts

The Pro Shirt’s armour is removable and built into a shell made from BeCool™ a unique fibre that has a greater diffusive area than standard fibre; this ensures high levels of breathability and comfort. During exercise the unique shape of the BeCool™ fibre means it acts like a fan extracting hot and wet air away from the body and replacing it with cool and fresh air.
Maximum protection and all day comfort."

That is cool looking, and very practical.

I know the zippered shoulder vents in this new Icon jacket work great, but a vent in a leather jacket can only do so much in higher temperatures.

Yeah, so I bought this to help me handle the heat, and the risks:

EVS G6 "Ballistic Jersey:

... but still looking for something to help me handle 100+ deg. temps, pants-wise.

Kinda "Mad Max" / Thunderdome, huh?

I got the non perforated version. It'll be a bit hotter in the summer months, but the inner lining comes out and the shoulder vents work so well.

I like the big, thick Icon lettering sewn into the front, and it has the Icon emblems on each shoulder, too. Very sharp. Armor in the back, shoulders, and elbows that are all removeable. Zipper in the inside for a phone, and the pockets zip up, as well as the shoulder vents zip to close. Very well made and thick, heavy material and sewing in all of it.

I also love that armor plate on the spine and the shoulder protection pads, too. I think it looks very good. Great jacket. Very heavy duty and, well, HEAVY..........LOL I bet it weighs to 9 pounds or so, if not more.
