Lowering zx14 front
07/30/12 6:43 AM

Just wondering when I lower the front of the bike by sliding the forks up, do I need to remove the handlebar or is the space enough for it to slide up without removing. Thanks for any assistance (please refrain from any comments about a "performance of a lowered bike....", lol)

Don't recall hearing about bars needing to be removed to raise the forks. Have heard that you need to be careful how much you raise them. The OEM position takes advantage of a taper in the diameter of the fork tubes. Go to low and you are clamping onto non-tapered tube. More likely to slip as you can imagine.

Just an idea. I'm sure someone will have more exact info for you soon.

Thanks Rook. I ended up lowering the rear yesterday with Soupys Lowering Links and was a lot easier than when i installed them on my gsxr. Took apart the fairings (thanks to your tutorial!!) with ease to check ou how to lower the front. I should have no problems with lowering the front to my desired height as there is PLENTY of tapered area before you hit the edge at the top and the lower part of the trees is all tapered.

In regards to the handlebars, all you have to do is remove the two bolts holding the bars in, and rotating them so you have access to the bolt that clamps to the tree. You can take them off but since there is only about an inch of play with all the cables and wires that connect to the controls, it would be impossible to get them back on once the trees have been raised. Snap, I should have just done a "how-to" for this.
