We just returned from our 2 week summer road trip. We rode from BC over to southern Montana (Red Lodge, and the Beartooth Pass) to hang with some friends...then my wife and I casually rode west and spent the next week and a half camping out in a KOA Kabin on the Oergon Coast. During the time we were on the road the 14 performed flawlessly. She never even once eeked out a complaint or ran in a manner other than at 110%. Most of our riding days were short but we logged a few full day rides which have given me some feedback on the touring capabilites of my 14. Aside from maybe looking into a better seat, and possibly getting a touring shiled for touring purposes I can't really think of changing a thing. She hauled my 200 pound frame along with about 100 pounds of gear effortlessly. Our route took us on some of Montana's finest Interstate's (where I got to wind her out a bit), as well as any decent mountain and valley roads we could find.
If I thought I needed any re-affirmation about making the right choice, this trip does just that.
In our 5000km of travel we only got on the wrong side of the radar gun once, and I'm almost embarassed to say (and somewhat peeved) that we were nabbed and ticketed for doing 72 in a 60 thru Walla Walla Wa. I guess they must need more money in their city coffers.
