Iowa 14R

New from northern Iowa... we are forecasted for snow as I type this, but I've been lurking for a long time here.

Traded my BUILT 2008 CBR1000RR for a 2012 ZX14R in Candy Surf Blue last fall, put 2,500 miles on it and now she's hibernating. It's bone stock other than Two-Bros carbon slip-ons, fender eliminator, Ram-Mount in the steering stem, and some Pit-Bull swingarm spools.

Well PMS (Parked Motorcycle Syndrome) has begun to ail me so for the past 2 weeks I've been parts shopping. Ordered a new set of black Convertibars, Renthal grips, ASV C5 levers, and a hard copy service manual. (eBay...it was cheap and I like to thumb pages).

Next on the list: Givi V35's with SW-Motech racks, Murphs pegs, Laminar lip windscreen, Airhawk R seat pad, 12V power outlet to charge iPhone, radiator guard, ECU reflash, Spiegler brake and clutch lines, BackOFF brake-light modulator, retro-reflective wheel stripes, and a cruise control system. (I use home-made throttle locks now, maybe throttlemeister or similar? I don't know about the fully electronic setup)

Cheeers,

B

I haven't admitted this to anyone other than myself since trading in my liter bike...but it honest to god doesn't seem too much faster in any way other than high-speed stability. That doesn't mean the ZX14R is slow, but should be a testament to how far the limits were pushed on my CBR. Dyno at 183 to the rear tire, and like any high-strung race car it was a harsh and brutal ride. (and expensive...$19,000+ investment) Idled like a barrel-chested gorilla with a snort every now and then so you don't forget what you're up against. City manners were non-existent. Bucked at anything under 30mph, loved to be taken advantage of and ridden hard in much haste. Such a race slut.

Now this calm, collected, and beautiful machine (stock) feels like it runs in the same speed bracket. What a place to be with a clean slate running 9's in the quarter and hopefully 200mph capable. I did take my CBR to the track and had a blast, want to revisit with the 14R. This is the definition of smooth, and luxurious power. The CBR had punch but you had to grab it by the horns and RIDE it to feel your ass clinch together. The 14R just quietly rolls down the road purely oozing torque from its every orifice. I have no doubt I will cross an item off my bucket list by doubling 'The TON': I want to reach 200mph once. Soon as I have done it with evidence & proof, I don't care if I gear it back down to regular street levels. Just feel like its gotta be done once. Will be researching Brocks & Guhls flash, and the secondary flies role playing in this one.

Other than that quest of mine, I want to build a hyper-touring bike with it. As you can tell by the Convertibars, I'm taking it very seriously. The Heli/GenMar risers or heck even the LSL guys have no idea what adjustability and high-riser comfort is all about. I don't want an inch or two of rise, I want 6" worth, or more, or less, lol. But only sometimes. Other rides I may want zero rise and all tuck. (I'll have to get some longer brake and clutch lines from Spiegler for this level of Convertibility) Once I reach my destination I can lower the bars back down and nail the mountain roads as hard as the stock bars would. Less than 30 seconds to go from a chiropractors weekly paycheck to an enjoyable upright land-missile.

Going on longer distance touring rides of our country is another item on my list. I plan to ride to Colorado this season, and later on possibly Texas and North Carolina. Heres my starting point...

Welcome -- Love the color, sharp ride.
I've got standing mile plans myself, just gotta do it one time -- but wasting a season membership is something I won't do LOL. So, once the bike is prepped and IF I hit the mark before the last session of ECTA, I'll run again to try for that little bit more.

I'd like to tackle the 200 before I start installing some of my parts. Although many are lighter, like the ASV short levers, CF heel guards, fender eliminator, pipes, etc. Some of my mods will actually add some weight I'm sure, like the convertibars and motech mounts. I don't know how crucial these parts weight really are, but it seems counter-intuitive to mod it all up then go out to try for a high-speed run

The parts list is growing.... with spring approaching I've given in to my bad habit of spending money. Tax season came and went and all I have to show for it is a kitchen full of motorcycle parts! LOL
