Sorry to hear about your bike man. Had mine a week and it fell of the stand while idling, lucky had oggy knobs, no damage caused. Always turn it off and leave in gear now.

I had a crash a couple of months back and all left hand panels needed replacing plus front fender and exhausts. Insurance covered it all with OEM replacements which were prepainted, the bill for the insurance company...wait for it...$7500.00. I was worried they would write it off but they didn't, they were really good.

Hope your repaires work out as well as mine did.

Plastic is cheaper than totaling it still I replaced the whole left side and mirrors ,plus slipon and front rim from a tip over at stop sign and it was 3600 give or take . I bought new slipons and they did the rest easy just had the bike two weeks

From what I hear Tom, tech inspection had to pull your tool kit off the bike before going back out! LOL

My lowside at the track cost me around $1700 for ALL new right side factory plastics, padding, and emblems. That also included pazzo short levers, and Rk Tuned carbon fiber slipons.

Yup, he did. I never even thought about it until he mentioned it. After the transponder ordeal I totally spaced the tool kit.

For everyone else reading this, that was another event of the day.. Had my lap time transponder under the hump. Think the bike barrel rolled once, blowing the hump off of it, before taking to the air. Sometime during the aerial maneuvers it flung that transponder completely over the tire barrier, into the grass on the other side. I couldn't find it, and the track was going to make me pay for it ($425) if I didn't return it. Several of the Hayabusa.org folks there helped me look for it during the lunch break, and that's how we found it plumb on the other side of the tire wall. That was a relief to say the least.
The prodical transponder..

HillbillyTom,

Glad to hear that you are in one piece!!

Kruz,

Once you get the check shop around to see who will give you the best price on parts. That's what I did with my other bike when I forgot it needed a kickstand down when parked. It happens to everyone at some point.
Good luck!!

They said two party check made out to the dealer where I want it repaired. That blows, I prefer to bolt on the parts myself so I can make sure it 's done right and save labor which should more than pay for the $500 deductible.
Geico sent me the phone numbers of two adjusters, one with 23 years experience and one with 3 years. Does it make any difference? What are your thoughts guys? Thanks for all the help folks, this was tough but I think when all is said and done my baby will be as good as ever, maybe even better with new pipes.

Wow... big spread... why such a difference in cost for similar crashes?

Not sure, but, mine were OEM plastics, pads, and decals. A local shop sold me the parts at their cost, that could be it. The owner of the shop and the guy that works the counter were both there when I went down and they hooked me up. Oh......and I did all the wrenching myself, so NO labor was involved.

Kruz, In the great state of Texas, you have a right to have the bike repaired anywhere you want to, that includes doing it yourself. You do NOT have to have it done at a shop. As long as the repairs are done, they are responsible to give you the money for the damage. If you save more than the $500 deductible, then that is yours. They CAN, however, reimburse you after the repairs are completed, but I don't think a major company like Geico would do it that way.
In fact, there is a letter in the mail from your insurance company explaining your rights, Texas law guarantees that.

When the bike laid down some oil probably seeped through the crankcase breather and then spread/misted when you rode it. If you wiped it and it doesn't reappear that would be my scientific wild ass guess (S.W.A.G.)

I got the three year adjuster from Geico, he called me yesterday and wants me to meet him at my local Kawi dealer on Saturday. We are in the grips of the worst ice storm in a decade, 75 F down to 18 F in three days! I don't see it clearing here anytime within the next week. I really feel for all those folks who are in town for the Superbowl, I heard it's an absolute mess over in Arlington near Cowboy Stadium, especialy for those that bought the $350 tickets to sit out in the parking lot and watch on the big screen TV. What were they thinking??? I heard from a police officer that 15,000 hookers had to be imported and they're prolly all freezing and will never come back to Dallas! Ice cold beer sounds good but not ice cold hookers!

Anyway, I'm going to ask for a two party check, cash it and order the parts using my discount through the dealer that sold me all of my bikes. I'll do the labor myself, that way I can make sure it's fixed right the first time with no collateral dealer induced damage.

Total cost for all the parts through Babbitts Kawasaki online came to $1380 including $425 for a replacement Yoshimura muffler. Tack on about 20% if you buy from a dealer and prolly $600 in labor + taxes and your looking at an estimate of about $2400 if the dealer does it. Let's see what the adjuster says.

Well I had the claims adjuster look at it yesterday, the estimate was $3043.08. They included the upper fairing, lower right and center fairings, right mirror, right front turn indicator, right foot peg, throttle bar end, right brake lever, emblem, fairing pads and a complete Yoshimura exhaust system. Geico will cut me a check for $2543.08 with the $500 deductible backed out. Hopefully my baby is going to be as good...maybe better than new when I'm finished.

Oh yeah...ya done good Kruz!Install all that stuff yerself...yep...good as new.$500 for a "total repair"...sweet!Very cool they paid for the Yoshi as well. You didn't do any mechanical damage...so that's excellent....no inspection or anything in that area.Way to go Kruz!Glad for ya.

If ya don't already know...you have to remove that ONE tiny fairing bolt at the nose to get that inner, upper fairing piece out.And watch yer tabs when ya go to slide it back in place...they can snap off(of the upper cowl/nose area).

Sweet man....way to go!The Lord is Good!

It hit on her right side...one thing I would check(happened with mine anyway)is when ya remove that belly fairing....I'd examine the ignition cover...mine cracked from the fall(the fairing actually saved the engine case cover and such though).Tipover...like yours but off the rear stand. And I'd inspect the right side caliper and rotor as well..make sure it didn't hit on that at all.

Hey kruz i went thru the samething.Sorry to hear about your wheels, man.I met Wiley the coyote head on and took off the right side of my 06 back in 07.Also jacked up my knee and ankle in the process.Me and the bike nevered went down, but thru the smoke, oil and antifreeze, made it to the side of the highway. My buddies got me off the bike and layed me down away from traffic.Layed in pain 2 hours before Ark. ambulance got there. My brother picked my bike with his trailer and took it back Memphis.STATE TROOPER said old Wiley didn't make it.Rushed to Memphis and found I had a broken ankle and busted knee. The grocery list for the bike:front fender, right disc, radiater,Muzzy header, right signal, upper, mid and lower farings, foot brake lever and footpeg($6900 worth).Geico worked well and paid for the whole deal and no deductible due to the time frame to rebuild.I just put it GOD hands.

FYI kruz, if you had frame sliders check and make sure it didn't break the frame mount. Pretty common, and that WILL total your bike instantly. Thats what had happened to my bike before i bought her.

Also, you can buy pieces on ebay cheap. OEM, good condition pieces. Let us know how you fare, and if you happen to make any money off this deal.

OK, thanks for all the input folks, lot of good stuff there to think about. The Geico adjuster let the Service Managaer at Grapevine Kawasaki do the actual inspection. He never removed the right side fairings to take a look, there could be more damage underneath like the cracked ingition cover or bent fairing brackets but I can always file a supplement if I find hidden damage and Geico will pay for it.

Geico has been really good through all of this, very pleasant (if you can call it that) experience overall.

If all goes well, I should come out about $1100 ahead after all of the repairs are done, money which I'd like to put back into the bikes for new tires, brakes etc. There's always a lot to do on these things.

That's excellent Kruz.I wanted to send ya a private message....but may as well say it here.IF it were me...I wouldn't say ANYTHING about getting parts from anywhere(for a cheaper price). The cat's outta the bag ...kinda....but they don't expect ya to "put their money" into your pocket,if ya know what I mean. This forum is very easy to find! And gets read by a lot of people.Just sayin.

Thanks Blue, I'm not really concerned about it though. First off, no one knows who I am, my real name is not Kruz obviously and I never posted pictures of my bike or it's damage. I could be anyone posting on a forum. Secondly, I own the machine outright, no liens, so I can legally do as I want as far as the repairs go. I could elect not to repair it at all, accept the loss of resale value, put the check in the bank and ride the bike as is. I can also have it repaired by whom and how I please using new parts, used parts off E-bay, buy parts and do it myself or whatever. They're legal obligation as the insurer is to make a fair market value assessment of the repairs, cut me a check and they're done. At least thats how it works in the state of Texas. I told the adjuster I was going to look at lower cost options other than having Kawasaki do the repairs and he said that was fine and would send the check to me rather than to the dealer. Now if there is a lien against you're bike,it's a different story. Texas law says that insurance check can only be made out to the lien holder and owner or to a repair facility and owner, both must sign. This is to protect the lien holder against loss of value in the vehicle should he have to repossess at some point. This can be waived at the insurer's option. Both of my daughters got caught driving in a hail storm and both of their vehicles were damaged. They both received repair checks and simply signed them over to the bank to pay off the loans. The bank and the insurance companies could'nt have cared less. If anyone knows any different, let me know.
