Quickshifter for 2013 zx14
09/08/13 2:55 AM

After some help boys.
I will be going ahead with a Dynojet upgrade.
What has been recommended to me is: PCV(5), Autotune Module ,O2 optimizer and Map switch.
I kind of got thinking that a quickshifter would be pretty cool. I have been told that there is some issue on the 2012/2013
models with the linkages/rods for the dynotjet quickshifter.
So,has anybody out there had experience with fitting any quickshifter(not air shifter) on a 2013 zx14?
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Also, what do you think of what has been recommended to me?
Is the ignition module necessary?
Thanks again.
Jordan

What was recommended would probably help, but I think a reflash would give you better results overall. The PCV is great for adding the Quickshifter though.

I don't have a PowerCommander on my ZX14R yet since it's still under warranty and I don't want to void it. I do have the PCV on my 2007 VFR800 and I added a button to the handlebar to activate the Quickshifter mode. It is AWESOME. Dynojet's button was too expensive, but any momentary switch will do. I used a push-to-talk button for a helmet intercom system. I just wired it to the two connections on the PCV and programmed the settings and it works great.

I'm planning to do the same with my 14 in the spring along with a reflash. By using the button, you don't have to worry about modifying shift linkage, and it's easy to do.

aegisranger,
Thanks so much for your reply. You have certainly given me another option.
But I do want to investigate further if there is a linkage setup for my 2013.
I don't know much about reflashing.
I guess I will have to do some more research before I hand my money over.
Thanks again.

Seno was on here with some great Pics and good info on this Shifter. I do not remember him reporting linkages issues ?

I don't know much about reflashing.

Should look into this. Best bang for the buck bar none. A real difference that you can feel instantly. Promise.

I was musing on a quickshifter as well.I watched the vid of the new Repsol Honda shifting and all at the track. It sounded VERY good shifting as he was.The deal that 'concerns' me is...with a bike as heavy and strong as the 14(R)...in the long run...could all the components(drive train)hold up okay?I mean...transferring all that power and weight at an instant...without a teensy 'break' to buffer everything...do you think it would be okay? The slipper is supposed to buffer the shift action(clutch).Wouldn't that quickshifter kinda circumvent that slipper?I don't know if that would be good for THESE big brutes or not?On the drag strip...it's no downshifting and full on straight power shots...but they aren't riding all over the place doing that...I seriously think this slipper clutch has extended the rear tire mileage....lots of downshifts...at pretty good speeds and rpms with my 2013.NONE of my other 14's got this many miles from a rear tire...ever.A quickshifter would pretty much negate that slipper wouldn't it?

I found seno's thread on his quickshifter. Very interesting!
I must show this to the boys at my workshop to see if they can rig something up for me.
I understand the concern regarding the stresses involved but I plan to use it mostly at the track which is about every 8 weeks. As seno said " you only live once" (or something like that).
I love this forum.....thanks again everyone for your input.

While searching online I came across this thread... I have been out of the loop a while, just busy with work. If anyone cares, I STILL LOVE MY HM QUICKSHIFTER!!! One of my best mods.

I also like the HM quickshifter.. Have to use it pretty often to keep it calibrated properly or the high rpm shifts might miss. Use it a lot and it works great.

I still believe the Bazzaz fuekl modual with Quick shifter has a better, more complex quickshifter. Plus it includes TC. If you just buy that, you already spent less than a PC5 with an HM quickshifter plus you got TC and fuel managment.

Rook, I don't know about you but I can count the number of missed shifts on 1 hand and I believe everyone was a result of not shifting it "firmly" and just flicking it into gear. What is your shifter set at? I will check my settings tomorrow and we can compare notes.

initially I had the settings as follows.

Sensitivity is set at 50%

Kill time is 60ms

I can count the number of missed shifts on 1 hand and I believe everyone was a result of not shifting it "firmly" and just flicking it into gear.

It is true I have a habit of softly nudging the lever. Works with the clutch perfectly...it will go in easy. I do make an effort to make a deffinite shift and that seems to help a great deal. Also the shifter self adjusts for minute changes in clearances due to temperature. This important because it has a strain gage sensor(as you know). It will not calibrate to a cooler temp/closer tolerance until you use it a couple times. ..So I try to do a few low-normal rpm shifts to make sure it is dialed in before high r shifting.

I will check my module later today to see if I changed the settings since install.

[Your text to link here...

Photo of me on the left and one of the guys that did some work on my bike.
I tried to upload a video of a power run with the quickshifter but I might need to get some help on that one.
Initially got just a street map, but the bike is going back to get each gear tuned.
Very happy with the outcome. Thought she was quick before. Truly a wingless jet!
