Radar detector
10/04/23 4:22 PM

My 10 year old Escort Redline radar detector is shot and I need a new one. You guys that travel and use radar, what do you recommend. I’m thinking another Redline, Uniden R series, or the Adaptiv which is specific to motorcycles (shock and water resistant).

I've been running Uniden R series on all my bikes since Uniden released their R series detectors. I'm currently running a R4 on my 14R and the R3 on my 10R. Phenomenal performance/range with the dependability you expect out of a detector that you rely on to save you from the "Tax Collectors".

I have mine setup with a tiny bluetooth receiver attached to the detector's 3.5" input which sends the audible warnings to my helmet's bluetooth speakers. Also I run it in dark mode so that the screen is completely blacked out until a radar/laser signal is received and then it lights up which also grabs my attention when riding at night time. This audible/visual setup has worked well for me and have saved me countless times.

GDay zx9rmal,

I also run the Escort Redline.
Old technology but last time I looked it was still providing some of the longest distance alerts around.
See below for details and mounting.

New Escort Redline Radar Detector

I honestly think if my Escort Redline ever packs it in I'll lookout for another second hand one.
It's been that good on my bike and cars.

P.S.
I also looked at all motorbike specific detectors before I purchased the Redline and found all of them wanting.
Maybe this has changed now...

I don't know if it's still true but the Valentine detected radar emissions earlier than all of the competitors. The downside is lots of vehicles emit millimeter radar for detection and ranging as part of the safety suite. This results in a plethora of false indications.

The only Speeding Ticket in a Car was in 1982. All the Police were using X-band dectecting equipment and its signal was on all the time-plenty of warning.
I just bought an Escort Radar Detector from a Car & Driver Magazine AD. $425 plus Air freight. I was Heading to Wichita for Christmas from Denver on I-70 about 6AM I met a CO Highway Patrol near Burlington. I was driving an indicated 75mph with the posted limit of 55mph. The Detector did nothing. COOL!
Well, after crossing the Kansas line another vehicle approached around the town of Goodland. About 500 yards away I could see the headlights but not what type of vehicle, then my Dectector went crazy.
The car cut through the Median and was coming after me. It was an unmarked Sheriff and he had the new K-Band Equipment. He clocked me at 73mph in a 55mph. It was a $79 fine and 3 points. But back in the 80's the States did not report to each other, so it never appeared on my Driver's License.
I always say that Ticket cost me $550. Back then before buying the Detector, I drove +4 over the posted limit the Police would give you an allowance.
In 1983 my car was broken into in Denver and the Escort disappeared. I never got another.
I've only had 1 speeding ticket in 52 years on a street motorcycle. I got one in 2010 in WY doing 10-over. A $89 ticket, less $10 for wearing a helmet and no points.
I spent 32 years as a Professional Truck Driver in the Rocky Mountains, so I have a different aspect about speeding. I needed my License to make a living. No blemishes meant Safety Bonuses.
If you want to speed attend one of those flying-mile events held across the Country or Bonneville or the dragrace track.

Down here in Arkansas, the State is leanant. They want your tourism $$$. You get a warning for 15+ over. I got a warning for 85 in a 60mph in my Mustang, but I'm old guy with White Hair. These AR State Troopers smile when they see this old Guy in a Mustang. I'm their Granddad's age.
Be Careful.

wtf......a cop in the bushed with a radar....

Last time we got pulled over the cop was using a stop watch and
timing us going up the cannon. We got off only because we had a cop riding
with us and they budded up.

I run the Escort S55 it's a decent detector at a good price. When I
get a KA alert you know there's a cop around, sometimes a mile+ in advance
