Brake Promblems??
06/30/11 2:44 PM

Ok, Im having a soft brake lever feel. Every so often I have to pump the brakes just to get it to stop. I just bleaded the brakes (fronts) but it still has the same feel. It's good/solid then it goes down to the grip......wtf?

Any info would be appreciate it.

What year and how many miles on the bike? New master.....That does not sound right. I suppose it could happen but highly unlikely. When you bled the brakes did you bleed the master cylinder first, then the right caliper, followed by the left one?

Im having a soft brake lever feel. Every so often I have to pump the brakes just to get it to stop

I do not understand how those symptoms equate to warped rotors???? My experience has been that you get brake pedal or brake lever pulsing with warped rotors………not soft lever feel.

Here is a soft pedal trick. Remove front calipers. Send all pucks home. Install calipers. Pump lever... Nice!
Here is a soft pedal trick. Remove clutch slave. Send the one piston puck home like the brake caliper pucks. Install slave... Nice!

@ danfzx14.....maybe i didnt explain it correct but the Kawi dealer said that its holding presure & there's no leaks, so they checked the rotors and found a warp one.....so they are replacing it.

@ Hub......wish I would have posted this before i sent it to the shop cuz maybe i would have my bike not enjoyin it over the long weekend verus being in the shop till Tues.....sucks!

But again thanks for all the support, will post an update hopefully on Tues once i get it back!

I really feel I must interject here even though I haven't been following the thread.

Put quite simply, FOK NO!!!!!!!!!!

OMG, 600$ for one rotor!!!!! Buy yourself a couple pitbull stands and 2 new aftermarket rotors that are nice better/lighter and you will not be spending TOO much more + you will have your stand needs met and be ready to do the next job cheaper and better than most shops will do for you.

JMHO. Not everyone likes to wrench but this is just remove the front calipers (2 bolts/side) remove the front wheel (1 axle nut and the axle) 4 pinch bolts then the rotor nuts (5 each sidecI think). It would take you 3-4 hours if you really take your time. With some experience that is an hour job, tops. No reason on God's green earth to charge $600 unless the rotors are gold plated or something.

WHEEEEE!!!!!I replaced MY warped rotors with the EBC Pro-Lite Square Rivet XC's.500 bucks...SWEET rotors...Ya...Rook's keerect...someone's pullin yer chain...but then, that's why I stopped takin my baby to the Dealer...Much cheaper to get yer parts online or whatever, and install yourself if ya feel ya can.Course, removing front wheels and calipers and such CAN get to be a real nightmare IF you don't understand what's goin on(not sayin ya don't there).I've stripped more than one caliper bolt head loosening the thing(or trying to).Babies get friggin tight after a while! And I "think" I managed to snap a bolt shank when I installed my rotors.IDK...I wasn't gonna take it back out and see!It tightened up fine...then ,suddenly..."crack"...you know, that sound ya get when ya..."just a teensy bit more now for good measure" type of sound It's doin okay...no issues with any of my rotor bolts.

I really never quite understood WHY the manual says to "remove caliper" when removing the front wheel....But that's what it says.MAYBE....to make sure those "caliper bolts" don't freeze up in there? They're so smart and I'm so STOOOOPID!!!!

I call bullshit on the rotor thing. Yes. You could have had a warped rotor but it's not causing the problems you brought the bike in for. Master seals more likely. Or better yet your pads have glazed. I assume it's under warrantee yet? If so let 'em throw as much money as they want I guess. Damn bastards wouldn't cover any of my issues so sock it too em. Stil can barely get my fuel door open some days (like this morning-bent my key!), fugging bastards!

Also keep in mind the possibility someone put silicone brake fluid in there and screwed everything up...

The ONLY thing that will cause a lever to start out firm and them bleed down, ( with no obvious external leaks) is a worn master cylinder piston seal. The fluid is going around the seal back into the reservoir, therefore no leaks.
Easy to fix, get a rebuild kit and go to it.

All, they replaced the warp rotor & everything is good now. Get this I got 1 rotor replaced & they said that one cost $600 which as we all know is bullshit. But do the the fact that I didn't have to pay it's all good. But now that I only have 1 new rotor I'm going out to buy 2 new rotors & new brake pads & having then installed.

Glad it got sorted out. Hey, if it wasn't out of your pocket who cares what the cost was. Maybe that is why they charged so much.
