aftermarket header 2007
08/04/13 9:39 AM

Hi guys, my 2007 zx14 is upgraded with Vance&hines pipes but i wanna have race headers.
Vance&Hines doesn't make headers for this bike so i wanna install a other brand and i prefer akrapovic/yoshimura but it can be something else. Its a two pipe slip on so it has to be a header for 2 pipes.
Does anybody know if a 2012 header will fit a 2007 model and if not what parts i need to adjust for making it fit?

can anybody help me with this, new or used no problem and the best color for me would be a silver one.

No, a gen1 pipe will not fit a gen2.

So from 2006 to 2011 = Interchangeable
2012 - 2013 = Interchangeable

Gen1 to Gen2 = No Can Do.

Why? I am a 1352 bore and stroke. I am square to the pipe this way.
I am a 1441 bore to stroke. My stroke is longer. My bore is wider.

X = I have to spread my headers wider so that little mm is one big PITA.
Y = I have a lower crank horizon so I now stretch this much more go extend the headers to fit.
Z = I have 3 points of entry is header/under belly/muffler mid pipe to collector header out pipe is no can fit there either.

And wanna know how I know? Cherry pick'inn her within hours of stripping her naked!

To make any gen1 pipe adjustment, it's all about the mid pipe to header muffler packing.

06-07 pack a large OD and smaller ID.
08 and on, the packing is smaller OD, larger ID for the larger headers using a honeycomb cat inside the header. First 2 years had smaller headers without cat in header. All mufflers have the same ID. So you'll see 'buy' the packing soon enough.

Wow you now it very well, thnx for the info. What would you suggest for me to do?
I really want to keep the Vance&hines pipes. On ebay the only thing i can buy is a 2012 akrapovic header. Would you make this fit or look for a 2007 header. And where would you look for the header? DOes akrapovic or yoshimura sell them for the 2007?

A 2012 will not do fine on your bike, no. Like saying I have flames coming out of my toenails. Will a pair of wooden dutch shoes fit my feet? No, I don't think so.
