So I watched the AMA Superbike race at Road Atlanta last weekend. Race 1 was the most outrageous race I've seen in ages!!
With 7 laps to go my buddy Josh Hayes and Blake Young were side by side coming over a rise and both had front wheels off the ground a couple inches. What happens, of course, is without front wheel contact the bike continues drifting in the direction it was going before loosing contact. These guys were aimed on an intersecting course. Young went down hard after the big bump, and took his time getting up. The red flag was out immediately. I figured that was it for Young. However, after the racers reassembled Young's crew had straightened out the bike and he was on the grid starting last. It took 3 laps for Young to get op to Josh's rear, second place. Young was hell bent for leather riding way beyond the envelope. They changed places several times in the next couple laps with Hayes leading most of the way. Young passed him in the second to last lap and Hayes passed again but ended up a couple feet short, taking second.
That was the baddest display of guts and huge huevos on the part of Blake Young I'd ever seen. I was rooting for my buddy Josh and was very upset by the finish. But it was GREAT racing. I've never liked Blake Young very much. He's a phony with an awful shit eating grin.
Anyone else see that race?
