Windscreen

I'm getting a lot of wind noise. Would this go away with a larger windscreen? If I tuck down more it does get better, but the sheer loudness of the wind is bothering me. Better earplugs, better helmet, all that stuff is what I usually do with wind noise, maybe I was just out riding on a windy day today.

I'm not a fan of wasting money on extra windscreens unless the stock one really sucks. But I don't think it does!

Wind noise changes from day to day depending on the actual wind direction. How you sit on the bike/riding position affects it, and of course your helmet and where the wind hits you. I changed screen because of wind buffeting, it was hitting me in the neck. Whilst the wind doesn't feel like it's pulling my helmet off anymore, The wind noise hasn't changed much, but that I think is because of the type of helmet I have. The newer Shark helmet seems noisier than the previous models I had.
The question is what has changed or was the noise always there?

I'm 6'-2"

The stock windscreen is a good windscreen overall.
This is what I've found:
The Kawasaki Accessory Windscreen (which is made by MRA) has a lip and eyes cut into it and reduces some of the wind hitting your chest and helmet, compared to the o.e.m.

The Zero Gravity Sport Touring Windscreen reduces wind on your chest more than the MRA above but doesn't do much for your helmet area. The helmet and area around the shoulders sees considerable wind and my Shoei tried to leave my head at high(er) speeds.

The MRA combined with a Laminar Lip is the best for reducing wind BY FAR. My Shoei no longer tries to choke me with the chin strap and I can listen to music through my helmet speakers. NOTE: The Laminar Lip was installed in a modified position which was on (4) 3/4" risers. Much of the wind pressure goes up and over now. There is no buffeting or any other problems. I won't be taking it off.

No issues at high speeds into a headwind.

I FINALLY found a windscreen system that works and I can enjoy riding this spaceship!

I really like my MRA spoiler screen. It has cut down buffeting and wind noise by half!

Would you just so happen to have a few pix showing your windscreen setup with the whole bike? I can see how it works up close, but I'm curious to see the profile. I bought the smoked MRA and I'm thinking this might be the next step....

It's tricky to get a perspective shot but here are a few more pics for you to ponder..The MRA by itself didn't make enough of a difference for what I was after. The current setup, as shown, works quite well.

Psychoninja mentioned his MRA cut wind by 1/2 compared to the stock screen. I would say the same.

The MRA with the raised Laminar Lip cuts the wind by at least 1/2 again. There is still wind noise but the pressure is WAY down compared to the other screens I've tried.

I tried the Laminar Lip on the smoked MRA I have as well and it looks fine either way. After a 1000 km day, I really couldn't care less about the looks over the comfort. :)

As a final experiment, I jammed a towel between the 2 screens to completely seal the gap and it made absolutely ZERO difference. That kinda surprised me.

If you are going to give it a try, I left both screens in the sun to heat them up to 70F or so and then used a bit at high speed and with light pressure. I then used a small stone (cone) to break the sharp edges on all drilled holes to reduce stress and prevent future cracks from forming.

(4) 3/4" metal risers, (4) 1-1/2" machine screws, plastic washers, steel washers and nuts. I didn't use threadlocker as the plastic apparently doesn't like it. After the first retigtening, there hasn't been an issue with the nuts backing off anyway. It's also nice and sturdy.

It's a keeper and I'll likely sell off the Smoked Sport-Touring Zero Gravity and the smoked MRA screens.

Somewhat unrelated, I see you installed the black cover shield thing under your windshield. What's the purpose of it anyway? I couldn't figure out what the deal was, so I left mine off. Seems like the blacked out part of the windshield serves the same purpose, and I don't have the cover spilling over into the transparent part of the shield.
