Put a downpayment on a 14' 14 :D
05/17/15 5:20 PM

I have a habit of getting carried away with introductions on forums so i will make this quick :)...

I haven't been on bikes for too long but my crave for speed, freedom, and to overcome overgrowing traffic (filtering is allowed where I'm from :), i have gotten aboard. I found myself enjoying Adventure type bikes the most and my daily rider, a 2014 BMW R1200GS Adventure has recently been traded in for a 2015 KTM 1290 Super Adventure... The reason i traded the BMW in was because i realised i wasn't prepared to do the amount of off-roading i initially had in mind and quite frankly, the big GS is not the offroader its advertised to be.. I'm sure in the right hands it could take a beating but any bike of any category would perform well respectively, doesn't mean it would be the best at what it does. On the contrary, the GS was a little slower than i would've liked, the handling wasn't anything to write home about and as manageable as it is for the size, physics always comes out on top and it IS a bike motorcycle and could be a handful in tight situations. The KTM is truly a Jack of all trades and a master of none. Having said that, it is damn good at everything it does and suits my daily requirements very well. I initially wanted to pick up a 2015 Ducati Multistrada S but i felt it was way too over priced, and a little small, nevertheless; a truly superb and very capable motorcycle. I am 6'3, 32 inseam, and 300lbs so a bigger bike would always suit me better.

Going onto the 14, i've always had a soft spot for the Hayabusa especially when they updated it in 2012 with ABS, i did feel it was a little cramped and uncomfortable plus the lack of factory traction control drove me away, like many newbies on here, i too felt it was asking too much for old technology. The ZX-14 was the runner up on my list as a high speed, comfort tourer and it just fit me a lot better. The dealer had a promotion going for overstocked 2014 models and they had one with the color combination i'd liked, Flat black w/red accents. We reached a deal and i put a downpayment right away.

I did not manage to finalise before traveling for a 2 week long business trip but once i'm back on June 1st, i will bring it to its new home :)...

Great to be on here and i am looking forward to interacting more on the forum.

Enjoy the pics :)

PDI:-

In the showroom :D

The KTM (Black SuperDuke 1290R is my brothers.. Intoxicatingly fast bike and one true Hooligan):-

And finally my X-Bimmer - Will always have a special place in my heart:-

I'm not sure how to post these pics as thumbnails, although inconvenient, if you copy and past each link in a new tab it will work fine.. Feel free to let me know how i could re-adjust. My apologies. - FIXED THANKS TO 'ROOK' :)

Your urls need to be surrounded by the image tags.

Do this: [i m g] paste the url here [/ i m g]
i have put a space between the img so that it will appear in this post but proper tags should be without spaces img and /img

Get this:

WELCOME. Are you a Brit, sir? Reading your post, I'm hearing a British accent. Very nice English.

Thank you Rook, for the assistance with fixing the attachments unnecessarily complicated application and for your kind words...

I'm actually far from being British, I am an Arab from Qatar :) however, your assumption is interesting since I've studied primary, middle, high school and university in British educational organization, when I speak I have an American accent and almost everyone who's familiar with my educational background depict my adoption of the American accent.

...of course! LOL I know a couple people who are German but have a slightly Brithish German accent when they speak English. They learned English from a British teacher, of course. That is very interesting. Qatar, hey? Very nice racetrack you have there. Did you see Valentino Rossi kick arse in the last two laps at Qatar this year? That was an amazing race! I have to watch that again.

No sir i am not into MotoGP funnily enough, i did how ever go to the H2 and H2R's debut and press release which was also carried out in Lusail! Regarding the racetrack, i've been on it in my car for track days and i could confirm that it is truly amazing to drive on.. I do plan on taking the 14 down there... If you ever decide to visit Qatar, you can borrow the 14 for a few hot laps how does that sound :D

Wow. you say you're currently in Qatar? I'm in Afghanistan, and I'll be passing through Qatar before heading back to the states at the end of the month.... I'll be on the American Military Base (Doha?) for one or two days if things go to plan, and to top it off, I have the EXACT SAME BIKE. I just haven't ridden it yet :-( . Any chance for a meet ?

I am going to do everything I can to make it happen!
Have you ridden both the KTM SD1290 and the SDA1290? The SD looks so much cooler, but if the SDA keeps up with it, it may be the wiser choice.....as a second bike of course!

The SA is a superb all rounder... It's very technologically advanced and truly a jack of all trades.. I've ridden it back to back with the SD but that, especially with the Akrapovic full exhaust puts out 194hp, 34 more than the SA and is 60lbs lighter so they are at different levels performance wise... Nevertheless.. Still a VERY capable motorcycle.. If you swing by you'll get to try both :D

I have no gear, so we may have to stop somewhere so I can maybe rent? Buying a complete set of gear when I have it all at home kinda sux....But the idea of riding all three bikes might be....worth it!

I wish! If ordinary riders can get on that track, that would be a dream come true.

Rook; Sure they can, as long as you're wearing full gear and you have a motorcycle licence then you're good to go.

Kixxit; We can hook you up with a helmet and perhaps a jacket, you cannot rent here and purchasing is outrageously expensive.. I pick up all my gear from revzilla and jafrum

If you have a helmet and jacket, all I need to pick up are gloves. I don't think I can order anything now and expect it to get here in time. These aren't my bikes and I intend to ride them respectfully. I'm just thrilled at the opportunity to try them - especially with an overseas forum member! I'm still waiting on an itinerary from my company. As soon as it drops I'll be able to give you some dates!

No worries about the gloves either.. We have you covered.. To make the others jelous; you will also have the oppurtunity of riding a 2015 Ducati Monster 821, and an MV Agusta 800 Trepestionne (not sure that's spelt correctly but it means 3 pistons in Italian) :p.. You're only issue at this point is the weather.. Still bearable at night but its expected to raise significantly in the coming week to 10 days so you need to sort your trip out soooon :D..

I've managed to log some miles on the 14; The bike is a complete animal, i am in love with it... Handling is not anything to write home about especially when compared with the KTM though on the straights; the trade off becomes a no brainer.

I approached the engine break in the hard way :D - more like i could not contain myself for too long. I took it really easy for the first 30 odd miles and then i started slowly stomping on it and riding it like it mostly will be riden.. at about 200miles i did an oil and filter change (mobil 1 20W-50W Dino Oil), and will do another with full synthetic at 500. Bike has around 350miles on it now and i've already raced the Super Duke :D

Generally, i'm very satisfied with the purchase.. It has certainly exceeded my expectation!

I need to start the modding process next month :D... I initially wanted to pick up a full Brocks Alien Head exhaust but i got a slamming offer on the Akrapovic Race Line exhaust at the dealer here.. They're offering it to me for $2290 installed with warrantee.. The Brocks is around $1450; What do you guys think? I will also check with CBlast since i will doing his tune/QS/LC combo

I can't make it

As it stands my company is flying me straight to Dubai and back to the states. I have tried everything I can to change the schedule to meet my needs, but it is not meant to be Needless to say I am extremely disappointed.

This does not mean I have given up! Due to the nature of my work, I may still be able to come out sometime in late sprint/fall/winter. I will let you know if/when another opportunity presents itself. Thank you so much for the offer - keep in touch and ride safe!
