SEATS discussion: Which seats you've tried, which you love, which you hate, which you sold & which one you've settled on for the long haul

That's it ... Which seats have you tried: Make, model, price, source ... whatever info you have. What you love(d) about it. What you hate(d) about it. Which one have you settled on for the long haul. Have to made any modifications to it? Did they help (or hurt)? Have you used a seat customizing place? If so, which one, how much did it cost, and did it help / hurt?

Me ... I'm still on the OEM seat and 'usually' but not always it makes my upper, inner thighs burn. After the burn has started, I've tried sitting on a folded towel, just to change up what's touching what where, and it helped a tiny bit, not much. Standing up from time to time while riding helps, temporarily, but that's probably not a great long-term solution

Other than stock, I've only tried the Saddlemen TechStyle. Looks really cool, fits with the seat cowl but it may touch the underside causing a slightly wider gap between the tail fairings and the seat cowl. More comfortable than the stock Gen1 seat but probably pretty similar to the Gen2 seat. I noticed the rear seat lock is not latching. Maybe I can adjust that so it will line up better.

Dont know if it is teh 14 seat or my age but the 14 is the first seat that made me uncomfortable after 7 or 8 hours..Had a friend that swore by Beadriders and so for 50 bucks or so I figured I would give them a try.. I was surprised at how comfortable they are for long rides..300 + mile days and toatally rid teh discomfort. The only negative is that aggresive riding causes a lot of sliding around on the seat, not always when I want to ..I am a liteweight at 130 or thereabouts so that maybe that I dont have enough weight to stay in one spot ??? :) anyway, I would sure give them a try if you do serious touring...

On my '07, the stock seat slopes down in the front, causing me to continually slide forward into the tank. Bought a used Corbin from someone who posted it here, and I have never regretted it. Had a Corbin on my previous bike, so I'm familiar with the trademark Corbin "firmness"... that's no problem at all. The best part is that the front of the seat actually points up a little, ending the nut-busting slide of the stocker.

Had a corbin on zx11 and loved it. Switched to a sargent single no pod for the 14. I use the cowl and store inside that. I love it. They will customize it for you. I had them put an extra layer of foam for more height and a little firmer. A lot cheaper than corbin when I bought. Huge improvement over stock. I also have a concours seat for 2 up riding, but rarely use it.

Ya...I've never tried another brand. The stock foam is very comfy for me...it's only the shape that I've messed with.Course, shaving off foam always leads to less softness....tried several different configs.Connie's seemed the most doable, once reshaped.I can't leave anything alone though...that's part of the problem with me.If it feels good...just a bit more will feel even better. That doesn't always work when you're removing foam

Saddleman on Zx10R- I could do 400 mile days on that no problem, compared to 200 mile agony on stock.
Corbin on Zx14- Better than stock but sits a bit too high for me. 200 mile days no problem.
Sargent on VFR 800. Best seat ever. 675 mile single day no problem.
I currently run my stock seat on zx14 for daily commute. I use the Corbin for longer trips, I would prefer a sargant and my term plan is to replace the Corbin with a Sargant.

BW II had a Tobin seat when I got it. Very comfortable but the rider section was short front-to-back, so no room to move around. I sold that and got a C-14 Lo-Gel seat, a KHI factory part-numbered accessory made by Bagster in France. Plenty of room but hard as a rock. If there was gel inside, it must have become pettified at some point. Sold that and got a ragged stock seat which I cut and reshaped with an electric caring knife to flatten and increase the front-to-back room. Now when I travel, I just toss he Airhawk R on. Makes any seat comfy.

My 2008 now has a Connie seat on it which was better than stock but with a beadrider on it my baby be comfy. Mine are the plastic beads that when it sits out all day at work I wind up with checkerboard burnt butt.

I went with the Sargent seat pod, just to have somewhere to store things when I ride.

It wasn't perfect, I have already had my seat guy massage it to my liking.

Who did your seat? A lot of people swear by Rich's custom seats in Kingston. My Corbin could use a little bit of help.

What a sweet collection of bikes Batt5. The Corbin on my 92 ZX-11 is very comfortable. Looks just like your ZX-10 only with purple piping and graphics.

Local guy that primarily does street rod and classic car upholstery, does m/c seats too.

He has done 3 Corbins for me - I find that corbins always need work for me to be satisfied with them. Glad I never pay full price for them!

The Corbin on my XX - hard as a rock, too wide and the outside edges put pressure on the underside of my legs, and so slick that any time I accelerated I went sliding back.

I had him round off the edges, raise it up about 2", build up the back to hold me in place, and put an awesome, not slick cover on it with red stitching.

Spencer's in Florida does a Great job!!! Spencer's seat mods have been the most comfortable seats I have EVER planted my butt on, period. Quick turnaround, great work, and awesome comfort. I've had Spencer do more than a couple of seats for me and I have always been amazed at what he can do, NEVER had any "butt burn" after getting a seat back from him. My two cents.

After looking at pics I have to say the seat pod is pretty cool, be about as handy as a pocket on a shirt. Would also keep me from having to carry my lock in my pocket!

Her's my Text Style. Best looking IMO. Only downside is the gap at the back and the passenger seat presses up against the underside of the cowl. This may be remedied by adjusting the position of the rear seat lock bracket.

Rook - That is a good looking seat. Is it porous ... water soaks in?

Not cool how the cowl rides high with it. I was thinking thinner passenger seat padding might help, but actually IIRC the cowl tabs attach to the bottom of the seat pan, so the seat pan itself must be riding a little high. Maybe you're not able to get the seat locked into place on the bike? I had that problem even with my OEM seat; must push forward very hard, and kinda wiggle it just right, in order to get the front tabs into their slots and get the seat pushed forward enough to be lockable.

What did that seat run ya?

Rook - That is a good looking seat. Is it porous ... water soaks in?

the whole thing is cover ed with a synthetic fabric which is water repellant but the 4 memory foam pads still DO soak up some water. It's not as bad as a sponge but you'll get a wet ass case of monkey butt if it was out in the rain. The rest of the seat doesn't seem to be affected but the water...at least it never felt heavy and i always take the seat off after i get caught in the rain. I have been caught in a few doozies with this seat and it seems like the water only effects the 4 pads. no stinky moldy smell, it never gets wringing wet.

Maybe you're not able to get the seat locked into place on the bike? I had that problem even with my OEM seat; must push forward very hard, and kinda wiggle it just right, in order to get the front tabs into their slots and get the seat pushed forward enough to be lockable.

That might be the only problem but the passenger seat does also seem to be padded more thickly than the OEM seat. The one I have has always fit much tighter into the steel tabs than the OEM seat. I had a hard time getting it to go in the first couple times i installed it. The rear lock is definitely not engaging with the locking mechanism. I recall hearing you can adjust the position of the lock tang bolted at the back of the passenger seat. That might help.

[/URL]

It's settled in a bit since these pics were taken when he seat was brand new. The gaps are not as bad but they're still there. It has stopped the seat cowl from rattling against the side tail pieces though.

I paid a little over 400 for it from Dennis kirk. looks like they no longer carry it.

Had that 'raised seat cowl' situation with mine.I installed on the cowl tabs(where they screw into the seat wells on the pan)a few small thin washers on each screw(between the tab and the pan). This effectively pulled the cowl down 'into' the rear pillion enough to close the gap along the sides there and in the rear.Adjusting that rear latch hook will also bring the cowl closer back at the end.I removed the hook, rebent it so the opening was a shade(barely)higher in the hook action. This helped pull the rear down closer as well.

Depending on the rear pillion thickness...this may not work best without removing a small amount or pillion foam.

I always make my own seats. Always the right height, slope, firmness and comfort. I use a local store for coverings but their selection of black vinyl's and synthetics are not bad. Exotics are not their thing but I'll take what I can get being a cheap bastard.
